Hard-Drives and Storage
Wassup my Nigz....
Whats the best breakdown lately for external storage? I just got a nice external maxtor 600gig.... nice case sweet firewire or usb2 for $350 is there anything better right now??? holla if u have more than 4.5 terrabyes in yo-house HOLLA |
Currently I have over 5TB of storage, no external drives lol. You could always get something like a LaCie Sata II PCI-XP 1TB solution. It?s the fastest thing on the market and comes in two flavors of 500gb or 1tb.

nice... i like that setup
you must either be a producer or love to jerk that small cock-alot HOLLA |
hahaha ;p Not a producer (in porn at least :winkwink: ) but hey, I do like a good jerk now and again. I work at about seventy five different jobs right now so it's kinda hectic. The job I do that requires the most video editing is for 'clip' office (they collect just about every bit of info that gets played on TV news wise and archive it for future use, especially for ad agencies and lawyers offices). I also do a lot of lower end editing on the side for people's school events, weddings, and other gay shit like that.
My main video editing computer has one TB, my storage puter has three TB. Final TB is on my junk computer for gaming/downloads, etc. I got tired of buying DVD?s and burning along time ago (after 2,000 burnt dvds, I had to fucking call it a night) so I decided just to keep plunking in hard drives. None of it is ?secure? though (as in it?s not raid w/redundancy?s, so if I lose a drive all the data on the one drive is dead). Funnily enough I never bought one external HD for data storage. Only thing I have for that is a 4gb thumbdrive. I may need to get a external HD one of these days for more speed, these flash drives are pretty fucking slow. At least they are almost impossible to kill? no moving parts, yummy ;) |
My business partner just got a big Opteron with 8x750GB's for his personal home storage. And another Dual Opteron Dual-Core for his workstation. Haha..pretty hardcore, but seems to do the job. :thumbsup

Got a couple of these with some Lacie big disks connected running thru a gigabit network. Moving the biggest files is now pretty painless :thumbsup

Wow Great Info :)

great info for sure
|
Seagate has a Cuda with 750GB capacity now I think.
|
They have Firewire that runs at 800 now and it's faster then USB 2. I purchased 4 Lacie products and had 4 RMAs. I don't recommend them at all.
Find a big case and fill it with SATA drives. You'll be happier in the long run. |
All great info...
But does any of these beat the price I got for the 600giger? Thanks peepz |

A 250-300 GB HD (sata2) cost about 100-125 usd right now, and an external case goes for 13 bucks on ebay. |
first... i would never play with anything less than 600gigs... anything smaller as of now (jun 2006) is a waste of time...
second... my desktop has 2terrabytes in it (four 500 gig drives...raided) -- there is no room for anymore drives. the external is for more storage and for portable on-the-run storage... i have a mobile production laptop for video editing and production...so the external works perfect for both systems. thanks for replying! |
soiunds like you got a killer hd
|
I have a 6 TB array in my house!
