Anyone here prefer checks over paypal/epassporte/free wire?

What do you think of the idea that your mainstream sponsor would remove checks as an affiliate payment option and only offer PayPal, ePassPorte and _Free_ Wire Transfer?

Would anyone here miss/prefer checks?

I dont have a problem with paypal payments as I have the debit card so I can instantly get it out of my account, but I do like getting the mail from the mailbox and seeing the checks :)

SeniorX 06-20-2006 11:16 PM

I can see international webmasters preferring wire/paypal/epass over checks due to the mailing time + 4-6 weeks wait time... but I'm also wondering about the availability of the non-check solutions... e.g. in places like Asia, Australia, Caribbean, etc. maybe there are places where paypal/epass are not available and getting a wire is even a bigger pain in the ass than cashing in a check.

I want checks. It's a no-hassle paper trail, and the fees are miminal, if anything at all.

I don't do epassporte. I like paypal, but the fees come into play again.

I'm guessing that as standard checks and paypal are both sent for free by the sponsor... paypal transfer acceptance fees should be less afaik than bank processing fees for checks and paypal also arrives immediately.

I hate checks and I hate international checks even more.

I prefer payment options that are free, so I prefer checks... well, except "free" wires, if you would really send wires for free on a few hundred dollar payment, then that would be fine too...

SeniorX 06-20-2006 11:50 PM

Well sending a wire costs us $3 and sending a check with all the processing time calculated in costs $8... so I'd rather send the wire for free.

(Knocks on wood) I Love My Epassporte :)!

studiocritic 06-21-2006 12:30 AM

i do a lot of mainstream..

i wont promote a network who doesn't offer timely check payouts.

SeniorX 06-21-2006 12:30 AM

anyone got any more arguments why mainstream sponsors should also offer checks next to paypal/epassporte and free wires?

SeniorX 06-21-2006 12:32 AM

studiocritic - why are check payouts so important to you... when there are the other great alternatives also available?

To avoid third party billing. If a company does their own billing if something is messed up they deal with the problem and dont push it off to the billing system they are using. I am for busineses to do their own billing.

tranza 06-21-2006 07:39 AM

I avoid getting checks as much as I can.

FLAiR 06-21-2006 08:32 PM

Jace 06-21-2006 08:33 PM

if a sponsor did away with checks I would drop them...I like having a paper trail

minusonebit 06-22-2006 06:34 AM

I'd rather have checks than anything else. I dont like providing my bank information to everyone and thier mommy.

u-Bob 06-22-2006 06:49 AM

I prefer epass and wires.

Choppa 06-22-2006 08:02 AM

cheques are fine with me

SeniorX 07-12-2006 01:40 AM

Could someone explain this preference for papertrail few people have mentioned here.... is it some way beneficial for US-only webmasters?

To be honest, I expected everyone would prefer epass/wires over cheques when wire fees are paid by the sponsor... wires arrive faster than checks, checks can take 4-6 weeks to cash in for international recipients, and 0.5% of checks get lost in mail or have to be re-issued for misc. reasons, while 100% of wires get through if bank info is correct.

So you'd rather provide your home/business address for receiving checks than your bank info?

(Many sponsors don't send checks to P.O. Boxes)

The paper trail helps out some of us who have a large amount of sponsor checks coming in and potentially doesn't handle every check themselves. It's easy to get a check in the mail and mark it down in the books. If you don't get the payment, you can ask for proof of payment and if they don't have a copy of a cashed check, you are good.

I do like Direct Deposit/Wires though. However, I prefer to only use it with larger sponsors who I trust. I just don't feel 100% comfortable giving out my banking info to a thousand sponsors, especially many who are small and fly-by-night.

Paypal and ePassporte are problems in my opinion. Paypal charges fees and I'd prefer to get everything I earned. Sometimes if you are making a few grand, Paypal fees can really cost you a few bucks. I don't trust ePassporte either. I know a lot of people have no problems with them, but there is also a nightmare thread on GFY everyday about funds not there, frozen accoutns, or taking too long to withdrawl money. I'd prefer to go a safer route than that.

i avoid checks, but i think they should always be an option
