I bet they replace it with another fucking reality show or soap opera. Its not the show thats shit, its the music.

Personally, I knew it was doomed when they stopped using "Whole Lotta Love" as the theme song a few years ago.

Well, it does have something to do with who they are booking for the show. None of it was live anymore and it was all very safe acts. A time like Boy George showing up on tv for the first time and shocking the dad's of the nation was never going to happen again.

The basic format became pretty much irrelevant when the charts themselves did. By the late 90's most singles were appearing in the charts in the highest position they were likely to reach, which pretty much put paid to the way they selected tracks for the show.

Switching from Thursday night to Friday and then moving the program to BBC2 pretty much guaranteed the outcome. Still, 40 years isn't a bad run...
