Ah yes, second hand smoke? 1 city bus pumps out the equivalent of 1 million cigarettes worth of carcinogens per second.
Yay for Priorities.

True, but city buses don't ditch cigarette butts all over the beach, sidewalks, parks. I think half of this is about the litter issue.

all of our buses here in Atlanta run on natural gas....pretty cool shit

Tom_PM 06-20-2006 08:15 AM

Yeah natural gas is nice compared to diesel. The EPA concluded that diesel exhaust is not a health hazzard lol. Pretty funny stuff. It contains the same items as smoke, plus more! hehe.

I guess the litter issue is something to think about. I've never understood people with clean ashtrays in their car, tossing butts out the window. Would they toss a butt on their carpet and smash it out? I kinda doubt it..

But really, when theres a anti-something going around, the governments jump right on it because it grabs attention. And while second hand smoke may be bad, not saying it isn't, the exhaust from diesel and gasoline engines is FAR worse.. but I think by now people know that big business gets priority in governments. So it shouldnt be surprising. When was the last emissions standard revision? Nobody knows because it's not an attention grabbing, vote getting headline story.

Then use laws against littering. You wouldn't ban drinking softdrinks in public because people throw cans away, right?

Tdog 06-20-2006 08:18 AM

Im not a smoker, so I think the law is good.

Honez 06-20-2006 08:43 AM

Someone needs to come up with biodegradable cigarette filters.

So you support ridiculous laws as long as they don't affect you personally?

Wizzo 06-20-2006 08:49 AM

One more reason not to go to California... :pimp

Outdoors, the effects on health are negligible, much smaller than those of cars passing you by, the sun on your skin, etc. Besides, do you really think it's a good idea for the government to control every aspect of what people can and can't do?

We do have laws against litter. Which is why you don't see cans and bags all over the place.

Americans and their guns. Europeans and their cigarettes.
