I saw a UFO over Las Vegas tonight [PICS]
A bright light moving overhead on a straight path for about three minutes. Looked like a bright star. I figured it was too high to be a plane and too slow to be a satellite.
So I looked it up here and the mystery was solved. No longer unidentified, my now IFO turned out to be this. Cool as hell. My first time ever seeing it, even though it passes over pretty much daily. The lighting and clear atmosphere were just right to make it quite bright even with all the neon in Vegas. :thumbsup http://helios.augustana.edu/astronom...-iss-sts98.jpg aka the ISS or International Space Station Here's the ground track, it passed almost right over us. http://tinyurl.com/h6hl4 Now all I need to do is come up with 20 million and I can be looking down at millions of people looking up at me thinking I'm a UFO. :winkwink: |
the space station kicks fucking ass.....

...Thanks for the comments. Any pics I took would have come out as a white blur. I am planning to get a camera mount on a telescope so that will produce some good shots hopefully. The next good pass will be on July 4. (You just enter in your lat/long on http://heavens-above.com and it tells you what to look for where and when etc) I have a feeling that July 4 won't be the best night to be looking for lights in the sky though. :) |
nice..:)

very cool

I'm a fan of JPass:
http://science.nasa.gov/RealTime/JPass/20/ I've seen the shuttle before docking and after disembarking the space station. First the space station flew over, then a couple minutes later we saw the shuttle. If the shuttle launches July 1 I won't see it here at home (Los Angeles) - but maybe I'll get to see it when I'm out of the country. Gravity Probe B makes frequent flyovers...but is not nearly as bright as the space station. Mike B |

...Yup I'll be looking for the shuttle on July 1, I think the docking is July 3. I gotta make it to a launch one of these days. Vandenburg has them about every other month I believe, for various satellites. :thumbsup |
hopefully real time sat image... keyhole.com is google's sat online real-time eyehole to the world.
|
that's NICE!!!!:thumbsup

bet it was a sight.
|
Wow that thing is moving fast. Looks like it takes 5 minutes to get across the USA.
|
I have seen that thing so many times. Sometimes it looks huge.

Watching ISS is fun, but nothing compared to watching Iridium flares!
You can get the complete skinny on when ISS, or Iridium satellites can be found at Heavens Above! :thumbsup |
The men in black have done their job again. Once more the world is safe from the chaos which would result if it knew about our alien masters.
