I was talking to a few buddies of mine and we got into the subject of mgp's and so forth. They said" Dave, I have so much FREE porn". Im like whatcha mean free? Since you only get clips from movie galleries and not the whole thing unless you pay. They were like "Ya FREE Porn. You know, you go searching for movies clips and just find a hot chick you want to beat off to and beat off". Im like wtf? The clips are like a few seconds long. How can you beat off to them? Hes like, all you do is put the shit on repeat and beat off. I do not need to pay for the whole thing. Whats the point when jerking off doesnt need to take so long. Why would I pay to be a member and have to st through the whole thing with my dick in my hand".

It really got me thinking. Are sales down because most surfers think like this? Id have to say he has a very nice point. Why pay when you can put shit on repeat and get a quick jerk before you daily routine? Also if this is starting to be the trend, whats that say for mgp's sales wise. The traffic is spiking big time. Is that why mgp's are doing so well traffic wise???

There is loads of free porn thats longer then 10 seconds, you can easily find 5min+ clips. But you also have the free porn password sites which have passwords to basically all of the biggest porn sites and loads of sites like raven riley etc. Really anyone smarter enough to use google properly doesnt need to pay for porn but luckily most people dont.

I don't think it's really about the $5, it's more about the fact that you are actually paying for it with a credit card. There is this uncertainty, this fear in the back of your mind... What if the name of the site appears on the credit card bill? What if later you are trying to find a job, they do a background check on you, and the fact that you purchased porn memberships comes up? What if my wife/girlfriend/employer/parents/etc finds out? Plus the stories of people getting fucked by rebills/crossales/etc spread fast, so average porn user thinks porn sites are nothing but a scam...

With Gnutella, Bittorrent and the like I don't know why people search at all... but I'm glad they do.

If you look at the previews of, say, Qmov or bustyadventures, I actually prefer those over most full videos. Nice summary of all the action, so you can put like 20 of them in a playlist, put it on shuffle/repeat, and watch.

I get asked that a lot these days also.

Usually I give them the analogy of comparing it to Hollywood movies. Why rent DVDs when there's tons of free movies on cable?

As both a producer and occasional consumer - I look at it from both sides. I've purchased memberships to bondage/fetish paysites in the past because I enjoyed the quality material and don't mind supporting the photographer's efforts. Sure, there's plenty of free stuff out there - but when I like a particular photographer's work, I'm willing to splash out a few bucks to see the entire inventory...not just the free samples available.

Same with renting a mainstream DVD. I rent'em because:

1. They're new releases and I'm impatient enough not to wait until they eventually make their way to cable TV years later.

2. I enjoy movies by certain directors (i.e. Tim Burton, David Cronenberg, Ron Howard, Robert Zemeckis, Brian DePalma, Oliver Stone, etc.).

Perhaps being a producer has made me more sensitive to the idea of helping support the creative community to which I belong. I can appreciate the time and effort that goes in to creating something that's entertaining. In that respect, I don't consider myself a typical consumer - which perhaps leaves me a little out of touch of the typical surfer.

Although its difficult to really discuss it all without getting in to generalities, but a large part of the problem is surfers don't generally think logically. They never stop to consider that while they're enjoying all the free stuff that's available, by not paying for it they're only handicapping the producers who's work keeps them supplied with fresh content. Then, without thinking...these same people will turn around and ask, "Why isn't there any really good quality porn out there these days?" - not realizing that THEY are a large part of the equation.

Also, I'm sure there's a great many people out there who mistakenly think the free porn is the same quality as the content tucked in pay member areas, not realizing that many of us downsize and reduce the image quality to conserve bandwidth expense on free promo material.

That is so true. I thought everyone knew that. The real argument in favor of paying for porn is the bad quality of free porn and having to search an endless amount of freesites for something you like.
