Did Ali G have a show on the BBC before the HBO thing?
 

Someone told me he did and I would love to get some copies of it, but I've googled it pretty hard and didn't turn up anything.

Anyone have any info?

It wasn't a BBC show it was on Channel 4 which is outside of the BBC system. http://www.channel4.com/entertainmen...osites/A/alig/ is their page for him but it was years since his height of popularity here so I don't know how up to date it would be.

Search out the Skits he did for the 11 oclock show which is where his character got its start and was - in my view - was funniest and fresh.

My sister participated in a "sister city" program that paired Tucson, AZ with Almaty, KZ... when I saw that Borat had come to Tucson, I was a little concerned he might end up paying her office a visit, but she was spared.

From my sister's KZ travel advice - if ever you go to KZ, be prepared to drink heavily, and consume meat of questionable origin.

The guy who plays Ali G - Sasha Baron Cohen - is jewish and actually dislikes hip hop culture. My mates brother used to hang around with him sometimes and really didnt like the guy. He does it more to ridicule blacks and muslims.
