Jay-Z Leads Cristal Boycott!
 

If you ever plan to hang out with Jay-Z don't order Cristal. The popular rapper has announced that he will no longer serve Cristal Champagne at his 40/40 club and will lead a boycott against the popular bubbly. The boycott is in response to comments made by Frederic Rouzaud, the managing director of Louis Roderer Cristal in The Economist. Rouzand made it clear that he is no fan of the brand's association with hip-hop, describing the namechecking of the brand in songs as "unwelcome attention." Jay-Z has issued a statement saying that Rouzand's comments are racist and that he will no longer support the brand.

Hmm, will be interesting to see how Cristal makers will react. It will no doubt lead to a massive short term downturn in sales as other hip hop/rap stars stop mentioning it in their tracks and it isn't seen as "cool" to drink any more.

Maybe good for the long term? Who knows.

Since 80% of hip-hop consumers are white suburban males, I think it may effect sales. This is not the first company to not embrace hip-hop exposure. The owners of Tommy Hilfiger and Timberland have both expressed the same, and have commented publicly on the issue. Basically the guy is saying that Cristal has been around forever and it's prefered by Kings, Queens, Sultans, Tycoons etc.. He don't give a fuck what Jay-Z or any other rapper says. You know what... I agree! I've been sippin Cristal since my adolecent years with the Fam. (Montecito 1980's) before I ever heard of Jay-Z. What are you gonna do not buy a Mercedes or BMW cause the supported Nazi Germany (by the way I know many that don't) If you are looking for an alternative. Dom P Rose, Krug (vintage) are good alternatives. But nothing beats that Cristal Rose.

I wonder if it has anything to do with Roc-A-Fella's investment in Armadale Vodka. To call Cristal's actions racist is kind of out there. I'm sure they'd say the same thing if death metal bands promoted it in their videos. Its the same with any music seen as having controversial content. Cristal is crap for the price anyway.

maybe not widespread/mainstream. but the Roederer has been releasing "vintages" that weren't deserving of the title to keep up with the demand on their cristal label.

Roedrer's sales will drop but the quality of their product will increase at the same time and they will end up selling out the line.

the ones that will end up paying the price will be the bars / waitresses that have enjoyed the $$$$ - at least until they find a complimentary product. dom or krug maybe
