Visiting San Francisco...Need Suggestions
I'm making a trip to San Francisco for a couple of days. I was hoping that you fellow GFYers could point in the right direction as far as good places to eat, visit, and party in the San Francisco area. Im planning to visit the Fisherman's wharf, alcatraz, and the golden gate bridge so far. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Stay near Union Square...it's very central to shopping and dining hotspots. 2hp |

Take highway 1 south through Pacifica toward Half Moon Bay, then 280 back north torward the city. Some lovely ocean views down highway 1, then hwy 92 over to 280 will take you around some nice redwoods and whatnot.
*shrug* |
Nice Shopping around Union Square ( Saks Fifth avenue etc)
Fishermans Wharf if you want seafood, Clam Chowder or some sour bread dough Lefty o Doulls for a nice cooked meal like your mum would cook Plenty of tours around the bay, if your doing Alcatraz book it early as the tours sell out Chinatown ordinary...get an $11 all day Bart, MUNI, or cable car pass and see the city that way |

Alcatraz is a must. Very cool and lots of history.
Coit tower is always fun and has great views. Go early. There is a Wells Fargo Musuem, and a trolly car musuem as well that I've found interesting. If your going to do Fisherman's Wharf, treat yourself to lunch from one of the small venders there - try the Lobster bisque. Also there is a Submarine (and there's an Aircraft carrier in Alameda. I don't remember where, but there is an Italian district with lots of great places to eat. I used to just drive in until I found it. If your into strip clubs, try the Offarrel Brothers Theatre. In the 1970's (way before my time!) it was the ultimate strip club where anything goes. Try the room there with the flashlights. |
Also, under the Golden Gate Bridge is a park with some neat views of the bridge. This is on the San Fran side.
Then go over the bridge itself and take the second exit. I believe it only goes in one direction. This leads you to a housing area for the Navy. The road there leads you over the hills and provides some stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge. |
If you bike, try riding your bike on the Golden Gate bridge over to the Marin side. Awesome views all around.

Go over to Clement Street for great cheap Asian food.
