Wish me luck. Tough decission

After the installation of some software my PC was fucked up.
So, smart as I am :1orglaugh I created a system restore point BEFORE this installation.

After my pc was fucked up, I did a system restore. Guess what? I have MANY MANY shortcuts double (2) That is not a real issue, however, also items in configuration panel are double. And even my icq contacts are double etc. I searched for all (2) files, and deleted those. That helped, but still to many errors...So I have to do a format c:\....

I think I have backed up everything, so wish me luck :)

(oh I tried another system restore from another date, that didn't help either....)

Use the force Luke!

I don't trust system restore. I just back up my documents, program files, and settings then do a clean install and restore...

Which reminds me, it's time to do an incremental backup

rowan 06-15-2006 01:49 PM

Only prob with starting from clean install is that there's a shitload of updates to apply, and by default the install off my CD (XP OEM SP1) is insecure. I temporarily firewall my PC and then run windows update about 15 times to get all of the updates properly installed. :1orglaugh

Even microsoft is saying that you should format your drives once a year now as basic maintenance...

Just figure you're killing two birds with one stone... :-)

oh, and good luck.

I didn't either. I use(d) image drive. However, my 2nd harddrive was corrupted, and replaced it. After that I never 'did' it anymore. I feel stupid now :Oh crap But I do have backups...So I just have to install all apps and updates :S

I have never seen this happen for system restores. But it would be a good idea just to wipe it and restore everything over again in this case if the system restore didn't work the way it should have.

Good luck with this.

lol the sad part is it's easier to just go d/l a fully updated warez version than to install from a original CD.
