BV 05-28-2002 10:46 PM

[Labret] 05-28-2002 10:47 PM

uh oh better get maaco

payrollpete 05-28-2002 10:48 PM

yup they paint cars

hyper 05-28-2002 10:55 PM

yeah i have used them on other cars.. dont have a pic tho.
they do good work but ya need to know the secret .. otherwise it will look like shit bro

XXXPaysiteDesign 05-28-2002 10:58 PM

If you have a nice car don't use maaco, they are low grade painters, get a real paintshop to do it.

payrollpete 05-28-2002 11:00 PM

well its a project car i been working on i want to get painted

i have heard mixed stories about maaco

if you remove all the decals, etc. etc. they do a good job

but if you just throw it at them to paint they suck

low grade not really, they have some pretty high tech equiptment from the looks of it

WTF? 05-28-2002 11:03 PM

mmmmmmmm..... Tomaaco .... mmmmmmmm......

hyper 05-28-2002 11:05 PM

the reason it sucks i heard is they use a softener to soften the paint thats already on the car, so the new paint will adhere to it.

so the secret is to prep your own car and just let them spray, bake and wet sand it. if they dont wet sand it, then you must do it right when you get home. then buff it out

payrollpete 05-28-2002 11:09 PM

hyper i heard similar

i think i am gonna prep the car then bring it to them

i heard their quality for the price is awesome though

payrollpete 05-28-2002 11:10 PM

i got a guy who wants to do the job for $2k

black, cleat cloat, etc. etc.

hyper 05-28-2002 11:16 PM

actually when you go to a local shop, the price depends alot on the color, however they mix their own paints. the pigments are various prices. then figure in the cost of reducers and clear.
the actual labor rate is low but stay away from red :)

if you know a clean place you can spray it, go catch a painter on his way home.. a few hundred bucks, a case of beer, and you buy the paint, u should come out around $600 but then you still have to wet sand and buff it

payrollpete 05-28-2002 11:24 PM

yeah i only want to spend about $1500 - $2500

black :)

with a clear cloat

so its very very glossy

red is such an ugly color lol

payrollpete 05-28-2002 11:25 PM

my friends father paints porsches, lamborghinis, ferraris, you name it

but he dosen't have a place to paint at, and i can't seem to find one in washington (where you can rent a stall etc.)

You are right on the money Pete, a paint job is 90% prep, so if you prep it for them then you should have no worries. It's when someone throws a rust bucket at them and expect miracles is the problem.....

hyper 05-28-2002 11:34 PM

hmm they have those self storage places, maybe you can find one big enough?

we painted my s-10 blazer black.. 2 coats of clear .. looks shiny as hell.. throw a little gold metallic in it :)

payrollpete 05-28-2002 11:35 PM

yeah i can see that, lazy ass maaco boys hehe...

i think i'll prep it myself or get someone to prep it

is it hard to prep? what does it involve

and if i decide to have someone prep it how much you think it will run?

payrollpete 05-28-2002 11:36 PM

right on

hyper 05-28-2002 11:46 PM

what type of car?

payrollpete 05-28-2002 11:49 PM

289-4V High performance engine with 600 Holley Carb

DON'T TAKE IT TO MAACO!! maaco is fine if you want a geo metro or a civic painted, but not a car like this.

hyper 05-28-2002 11:56 PM

lol what jake said

just cause they had one in the commercial doesnt mean they painted it.

but anyway if you do do it, remove the decals, emblems.

remove all the chrome.. bumpers mirrors
remove the front and rear lights
the door handles
scuff the car down with a scotchbrite pad completely.
get some nice 1500 grit wet sandpaper and wetsand the car down before it goes in the shop. thats providing it has decent paint on it now

payrollpete 05-28-2002 11:57 PM

well i have 2 choices

maaco or custom place

this maaco has one awards for really good car painting

thats the thing :)

hyper 05-29-2002 12:17 AM

yep. me too. paid $20 a piece at louie's plaque center

payrollpete 05-29-2002 12:20 AM

LOL haaahahahahahahahha

PersianKitty 05-29-2002 12:23 AM

Check with some of the Mustang Clubs or even the Mustang Ranch in Eatonville, Mustang Empire in Tacoma and see who they recommend.

payrollpete 05-29-2002 12:25 AM

awesome thanks pk good idea

you got any muscle cars in the driveway?

i'll race ya :)

PersianKitty 05-29-2002 01:33 AM

68 Mustang GT/CS (California Special).. painted Acapulco Blue.. one of the original '68 colors. It was originally Lime Gold.. ewwww

What was yours' original color?

payrollpete 05-29-2002 01:57 AM

red

going black :)

payrollpete 05-29-2002 01:58 AM

was thinking black cherry though...

PersianKitty 05-29-2002 09:32 PM

The black cherry is kewl with ghost flames, but for me.. it's not a real vintage car unless you paint it it's original color.
