So this thread gets posted a few days ago and now Roger wants a horse. Coincidence? You be the judge!! ;)

Roger, Horses are a pain in the ass, seriously.

One is as much trouble as 10 if you are stabling it yourself. If someone in you family wants one I would recommend testing their dedication by over-exposure to local commercial stables.

This is NOT like letting the dog out or having a neighbor watch your cat when out of town.

If my advise was to simplistic sorry .... I have no idea what the facts are.

Advise from the horse capitol of the world.

you serious or joking?

Peaches 06-14-2006 09:46 PM

I don't like horses because they aren't loyal like a dog or a cat. I want a pet that gets all excited when they see me. But I do enjoy riding them. Wig has some and keeps inviting me to ride with them but I'm afraid I might hurt one :(

He also has mules and said they are a LOT smarter.

venus 06-14-2006 09:46 PM

the hair around their feet are called "feathers"
clydesdales, shires, friesians, some warm bloods have feathers.

The Ad you quoted, the picture is from the netherlands, so by the looks of it the horse is not here yet. If he is in the netherlands the seller is a broker and your paying a high markup. For 25k, thats an expensive horse for a gelding and only 1st level dressage. He is not even a ster. Mine was awarded ster in 2005.

venus 06-14-2006 09:48 PM

serious, I have 5 horses, 3 friesians, 2 of which are stallions, Goliath, my gelding is the one that is for sale, here is his page

What a coincidence... I love riding horses too ;)

venus 06-14-2006 09:59 PM

the horse world is pretty small, especially when it comes to friesians, then its even smaller. He is a beautiful guy... lots of people write about him, they just dont have the money to buy him.

when I imported him just over a year ago he had zero training, could not be ridden, now he can do anything, I even taught him to bow down on one knee.

I can even get you a horse from Holland, mare, in foal right now, baby due early 2007, she is 7000 euros (about 8400$ I think) and its about $4,500 to import her, so she is about $13,000 and as soon as the baby hits the ground you can sell it for at least $10,000

Roger if you have a pool the typical Florida screen enclosure will keep the horseflies out. The smell from a horse on 2 1/2 acres will take some getting used to. Your neighbors will also love you. :2 cents:

ok talked to my buddy... he said....

Not really, the Analusian's get the long mane but not the "feathers" around the hooves. Even with the clydesdales you are not guaranteed the long mane. On average the Analusian is 10% lower in cost then the Friesian but because the Friesian has those attributes is why they are so expensive.

venus 06-14-2006 10:51 PM

its easy to ship a horse, I use Bob Hubbard when I had my stallion brought down from quarentine in northern california
http://www.bobhubbardhorsetrans.com/
it was pretty cheap, I think only about $1200 from there to phoenix

wow thanks for coming through on your post:thumbsup

venus 06-14-2006 11:01 PM

Andulusians are pretty horses, but they have small thin legs and no feathers, their neck is similar to friesians but thats about it.

Friesians cost so much because most are imported from the netherlands. There are only 20 approved breeding stallions in the US as opposed to 90 in the netherlands. There are about 30,000 registered (FPS registered) friesians worldwide and only about 2000 in the US. They are pretty rare here.

The Friesian horse originates from ?Friesland? (?Fryslan? in the Friesian language), one of the eleven provinces of the Netherlands, The Friesian horse is the only horse native the Netherlands.

the stats I posted come from the FPS, the dutch registry, which is the original friesian registry.
