ok so I should spend it on my house which would be an investment or supercharge my car which is basically like throwing it away?

personally I would use the money to add an extension to the house, you could possibly add +12% to the value of the house :) Maybe a loft conversion or an extra bathroom which could add +5% or extra parking space for your cars +7% :)

"Doing up a house" might not be the best idea. There are some things I'd like to do to my house (make an addition, add a garage) but in the long run, it would be years before I could realize a profit when I sold.

I'd take the money and buy some investment property.
