Looking at big screens... DLP, LCD?
 

Which is better? I also plan to play X-Box on it and possibly have the ability to hookup my laptop.


I am thinking LCD is the way to go. I am looking between the sizes of 45" to 58" widescreen.

What brand too? Panasonic? Sony? Mitusbishi?


Plasma I was thinking at first, but from what I have read they are a fading technology and the average tv is only lasting 3-4 years. I believe burn-out is also a problem...

Best? Plasma. Second best? LCD.

I'm not getting any of that shit though, sticking with my CRT TV until they come out with LED tv's... now that shit is going to be where it's at.

I thought Plasma TV's have problems.... Does anyone recommend an LCD big screen?

plasma is better.

Plasma TV's used to have problems a while ago - at higher elevations they wouldn't even work! Most of these problems have been fixed, however, while keeping Plasma's superior picture quality. The only problem that remains is the chance of burn-in... this can be avoided if you just make sure you don't leave the TV on all night on a media station (like Fox News) with their taper at the bottom. Most Plasma's have a built in 'screen' saver that you can setup to go off after a certain amount of time to prevent that from happening as well.

LCD big screens:
I'm particularly fond of Philips LCD screens, they seem to have their shit together in this department. I use the 42PF9830A at work and I can vouch that it is a kickass unit... prolly a little small for your likings though. It's a really nice TV and quality is top-notch but it can't touch really touch Plasma in terms of picture quality (well.. most plasma tv's at least).

Me personally, I'm waiting until LED tv's get here as they will have by far the best picture and lowest power requirements. Granted, LCD power req. are pretty low (around 125-150 watts or so at 61"), but LED will even make this look laughable (10-15 watts for a 61" equiv.). Of course LED tv's are quite a long time off =(
