do all great bands lose it when they go sober?

look at all the great artists and musicians of the last 50 years. their first few albums rock and then everything after that sucks as with the occasional catchy song here and there. if jimi hendrix lived till today would his last bunch of albums rock?

also, look at the rolling stones, aerosmith, van halen...etc.... once they went sober all their last albums sucked ass.

so the moral of the story is write as much music as possible while your on LSD, smack, coke, or booze because once you go sober you're gonna suck.

Dave Mustaine flowered after he cleaned up and left Metallica. Metallica just sucked worse...

Rust In Peace is the BEST speed metal album EVER recorded. I call that pretty major. :2 cents:

Megadeath has some great albums, fairly recent stuff too, and they still put on a great show.

I don't think its just the sober factor, I think its also the age factor. When you were introduced to the band is also a huge factor. There are people who swear the Black Album is Metallica's greatest album and everything prior is horrible... of course we all know thats absolute bull shit. :-) But it just goes to show you that time of introduction plays a huge part in ones particular taste.

When they're 20 they have no responsibilities, no rules, no wives, no kids. Then they get contract obligations. Tour schedules. They meet a girl. They get married. Have a kid. Stop drinking. Stop drugs. Stop partying.

You can't compare a 40 year old James Hetfield with a 20 year old James Hetfield. They're two totally different people.
