The Government is cracking down on Porn on Google! WTF!

I didn't see this one coming...

Google's new, free-video service - www.video.google.com - has no oversight but was originally billed as "family fare" when it was launched six months ago in order to build a free-wheeling universe of video swappers.

But its increasingly explicit trash - ranging from frontal nudity to horrific videos of people being crushed fatally by freeway traffic - has set off outrage at the New York State Consumer Protection Board.

The regulatory agency is preparing to issue a formal warning to parents as early as today to block home computers from the unsuitable videos, which users can access regardless of parental censoring.

Although Google's main Web site, Google.com can be governed by parental controls that block porn, violence and other restricted fare, its video site has no such controls.

Without any searching, a user just types in the video Web site to bring up hundreds of videos in rankings that change several times an hour, depending on the volume of viewers.

Among racy videos are: teens doing stripteases on home blogs; semi-nude young lesbians in the throes of embrace; and numerous amateur video clips of women exposing and fondling themselves.

Some videos are crudely sickening, such as a heartbreaking video, "Alien Child," showing a deformed infant without eyes - just bulging red membranes in the sockets, and only a tiny navel-like opening for a mouth - vainly attempting to suckle a baby's bottle.

"It's fairly easy to find [explicit] videos throughout the Internet, but it's certainly another case for Google to organize these videos and present them so freely on a single Web page," said Teresa Santiago, chairwoman and executive director of the state agency.

"Parents have a hard enough time policing the Internet without Google's video service making it easier for children to see and save these types of videos," she said.

Google defended its new video site as an evolving test, and said it has removed numerous objectionable videos when alerted to them. The company acknowledged on its own Web site that it doesn't yet have a filter to block minors from the filth.

Google said it is attempting to set up a system to review and censor the huge volume of videos submitted by tens of thousands of users without offering any other details.

Santiago said that wasn't enough. "We think Google's video should show more discretion in the presentation and accessibility of unusable videos," she said.

Another agency official said the state has held three conferences with Google executives to solve the porn problems, but "is just getting the runaround from Google."

As an example, a long list of trashy videos cited by the state was yanked by Google in recent days, but reappeared yesterday under a new gouging called "movers and shakers."

What's the answer? Ban Google?

I think we're all for a completely open Internet. Without human intervention how would you control video. You know this will have legs cause we're doing it for the kids! Next they add a terrorist aspect and the program for sure will be banned.

Assume this is submitted video and bought or exclusive video ripped off somebodies site?

damn, google risk getting owned

GatorB 06-13-2006 04:30 AM

Google certainly has no problems taking DAYS reviewing my adwords ads before they are shown despite the fact their program states that ads are to be shown IMMEDIATELY. So why can't they review videos? At least I'm paying google. Yet these video submiters are getting better treatment.

So how do we ban unsupervised children from the internet? Since they are the real problem, and certainly the minority of internet users?

You can't. Too many parents view the home computer as a babysitter, and couldn't give a shit as long as the kids are quiet. It is only when something like this happens that they get shocked and of course blame everyone else but themselves for their lack of supervision.

MaddCaz 06-13-2006 11:06 AM

I think they will try. This is just the first and most high profile of the targets.

People are people and it's a crazy world. The internet belongs to civilization. Leave us the fuck alone.

tony286 06-13-2006 02:46 PM

The problem is there is this thought children must have access to everything, its the parents. When I was young HBO had just started and it was only on at night and it was only in my parents bedroom. It wasnt for kids to watch and my parents controlled it.

SgtStrider 06-13-2006 02:49 PM

that thing sucks anyways, you cant find shit on there

Anyone remember OnTV? Back in 81-82 it was hardcore porn on cable. Even Emmanualle was pretty hardcore back then. Parents can only control so much, crafty kids... especially horny boys, will see whatever they want eventually.

How will they do that, with an entire building full of trained monkeys?

SO incredibly true :Oh crap

dynastoned 06-13-2006 03:39 PM

man fucking censorship is retarded ON ANY LEVEL. irresponsible parents are to blame. the internet is a public place just like pretty much anywhere on earth. if you wouldn't let your child walk around the streets of san francisco by themselves then you shouldn't let them wander the net without your supervision. plain and fucking simple go get them a football and tell them to go play outside if they are that fucking worried.
