If you can't get .com or .net then what?
So if the com or net extension you want is taken then what extension would you choose next?
I think a lot of surfers would identify with .tv next, maybe even over .net. I have heard a lot about search engines not liking some domains...But I have .hm domains that are first page on Google. Though have never seen a first page .tv domain. |
I don't like to leave the .com neighborhood, but in the future with HDTV and broadband connections .tv is probably smart.
|
Stick with .com or lose half your traffic to the person who owns the .com of the domain.
|
I'd say the list would be ...
.com .net .org .us .tv Apart from them I wouldn't bother. |
Quit now and sell your computer.
|
I have heard that Google will give .org and .biz domains a page rank of zero by default. Maybe this has changed.
Has anyone seen a first page result .tv or .us domain on Google? For what search term? |
.biz is another one I would consider

.gov works good in google. And .edu
|
I'd stick to .com, and think of some other domain name
|
If you can't get a .com, don't bother. You'll just be sending a hunk of your traffic to whoever owns the .com version.
There are still plenty of great names that haven't been registered. Don't get so hung up on one name that you'd consider anything other than the .com version. And even then, it might be smart to buy at least the .net and .org versions of the name as well. |
dot poo would be a good poofter site
|
|
.us ;)
|
.info

Bookmark/trades/SE won't goof up and go to the .com by mistake.
The only thing I can think of is a person forgets a website address and tries to retype the domain using .com instead of .net .com is best, but a .net isn't too bad. |
