How long can you go with ZERO income?

This was brought up on another board. I could probably hit 3 years if I cut back on expenses. A year or so more if I refinanced or sold my house. After that, I better get my fat ass out of bed and into the workforce!

I know this will run the gamut from those who can live forever and those who can last week. Just curious :)

P.S. if you're over 30, you should have AT LEAST 6 months minimum liquid cash.

I dread the think... still got a mortgage etc to pay - so would not have a roof over my head for very long.. I could maybe last a year with a struggle.

fallenmuffin 06-10-2006 10:52 PM

Ouch.. probably 3 months if I'm as tight as a virgin on sunday

s2kcord 06-10-2006 10:59 PM

Forever I could beg and barrow and mabe steal if my family needed to eat!

Nookster 06-10-2006 11:03 PM

I can go for years if I seriously needed to. My fiance's family is pretty rich and they spoil her, and she never lets me pay for anything as is (but I force her to let me usually lol) even though I have more than enough money. Man I love her. :)

Pete-KT 06-10-2006 11:05 PM

ffmihai 06-11-2006 01:57 PM

a long time

milambur 06-11-2006 01:59 PM

I got a Hilleberg Keron 3GT tent, professional survival gear and the knowledge needed to survive in nature indefinitely. But at the current rate of spending i could last about 2 years.

testpie 06-11-2006 01:59 PM

Personally i have been on zero income since i started in the business (don't really know if not getting any revenue actually counts as starting, but i digress) - so a while :D.

stev0 06-11-2006 02:00 PM

Couple months... If i stopped going to the bar and blowing cash then a hell of alot longer ;) I'm not too concerned about saving right now though, i'm 23 and I live in Calgary, if something ever happened and i couldn't work online anymore I could easily get another job in the oil or construction industry here and still be making a six figure salary.

Theo 06-11-2006 02:21 PM

couple of years

Bill8 06-11-2006 02:48 PM

Couple of years. I'd have to cut back on luxuries.

I did just spend a lot of cash reserve on a new car, home improvements, paying off my kids student loan early - otherwise it would be longer.

MarkMan 06-11-2006 02:50 PM

from my math.. about 5 years.. maybe a bit more..

quiet 06-11-2006 02:51 PM

30 years or so. if i get to include interest on investments, then quite a bit longer.

baX 06-11-2006 02:57 PM

Probably few weeks although living is very cheap in my country.

rezzz 06-11-2006 02:57 PM
