Who introduced you to the "industry"?

I was a dancer and another dancer told me about her site. So I gave it a go. I paid for a designer to design me a site and learned from him. 4 site designs later and here I am. lol

If you are a webmaster, how did you think to start a site and how did you get your capital? Or how did you get into the business alltogether?

Murderous 06-10-2006 08:34 PM

Thumbzilla.com - I clicked on my first sponsor link as a surfer.

the alchemist 06-10-2006 08:35 PM

I used to own an ISP, started talking with some of my adult hosting clients at some point... My conclusion was I had the skills to make that move at a life crossroad, plus, I like money and beautiful women, like you :pimp

I met Doctor Dre at a party and we started hanging out, he told me of a way to make a bit of extra cash on the side. I ended up editing Kristina Woods trailers as my first adult video editing gig and its all be uphill since then.

Right now I'm spending more time working mainstream video and film, but I still do adult on the side and I'm trying my hand at webmastering

started out like any kid, talking on AIM and Yahoo Chat, met some people who built websites, started my own, grew and improved, and in 2001 i met a guy named Joe, he ran an adult related site, so i decided to take a shot at it, and just went from there :)

WiredGuy 06-10-2006 09:10 PM

I was always pretty good at SEO and while I was a student, I started with a mere $100 to give it a go. Later got some additional financing and then escalated things from there.

It was 24 yrs ago, I was given a job at a strip because they just lost the Sunday night doorman and I was friendly with the bartender. He looked like Bull from night court.

biftek 06-10-2006 09:18 PM

i came from the cracking side of things , bored teenager , with my bruteforce progs throwing passes at sites just for the fun of it, never gave any passes away or leeched the whole site ,
anyway kept coming across crappy sites that had tonnes of members , thought if they could do it so can i

"HTML in 21 days"... seriously.

I was doing some IT consultancy for Marks & Spencer (a large UK retailer for non-Brits) and it became obvious they were developing an interest in the 'Net. So I figured I had better get my head around the basics at least.

I sat down with that book one evening and although the examples were easy to follow, they didn't seem to have a whole lot to do with real websites. So I started looking at some sites' source code and trying to use it: the result was a couple of AVS "sites"... the sort which would barely pass as free sites these days.

Lo and behold a check turned up a few weeks afterwards, so a few months later, when poor health forced me to find something stress-free I could do from home, I took a more serious look at online porn.

Webby 06-10-2006 09:23 PM

If anyone... prob Georgie Marks (George Harrison Marks) - least I'll blame him :winkwink:

Georgie was born before most of us - had an "interesting" and turbulent career as a photographer/movie producer, - and variations on that, made loads of money and lost it all and died in late 90's, but his rep still lives on. Nice guy.

I'll never get "revenge" and be able to cuss him for getting be into this shit :winkwink:

I was introduced to the industry by David Lace. I went to work at his studio in Culver City in 2000 as a color corrector/retoucher for his photographers. After he found out that I could shoot better then them, he fired them and I started shooting. I managed his studio and retouchers for about a year and then moved on. It was a shitty experience but I learned a lot about content production!

he-fox 06-10-2006 09:25 PM

I figured out that making money on the net will allow my the freedom to travel I need. So I started searching and I chose porn, because I thought it was easier. I learned the basics from resource sites and boards.

Long time ago I had an art studio, making paintings. Found myself at a rave one night with friends on E and met a model, Tina who lead me into the strip club biz and that lead me to the adult online biz.

According to StuartD, good photographers don't need color correctors/retouchers :winkwink:

You made some killer trailers, bro. I showed all my boys them. I've worked with Kristina - she's awesome.

I was introduced to the industry by Bill of Nubiles around September of '04. When we first me, I had no idea what he did. He told me he operated some porn websites, but didn't go into detail. I researched it after that and here I am :)

props on those trailers again, maing..

Joey B. Lo 06-10-2006 10:27 PM

After wasting about $500 bucks searching for nude pictures on AOL and having no clue how I would ever pay off the phone company, I discovered Eudora (i think it was called) in 1995 or so and about a week later Netscape Navigator and suddenly it all became clear. I viewed some source code and started my first adult avs site. Rest is history :thumbsup :thumbsup

fallenmuffin 06-10-2006 10:36 PM

fatman1 got me into the industry... however easygals.com was my inspiration

TomCruise 06-10-2006 11:16 PM

sperminator. he was like, 'dude sup lets do porn' -- At first I thought he meant sites, turns out he wanted the butt sex. No anal for him.

PowerRequester 06-10-2006 11:26 PM

Back in 2000, I find a link to ARS, sign-up, and then began to read some boards. Made my first sale with a tgp gallery some time later.

So I think that was ARS that "introduced" me, since this was my first sponsor and my first sale.

Capt. rold 06-10-2006 11:27 PM

thaifan99 06-10-2006 11:32 PM

kmanrox 06-10-2006 11:37 PM

nobody introduced me, i was a pioneer in 1995-1996.. =)

KRL 06-10-2006 11:48 PM

Time Magazine.

There was a little blurb talking about how you could call a phone number starting with prefix 976 and listen to girls having sex.

Next day a bunch of guys at the company I was working at were all in an office together with the door shut laughing their asses off. Walked in and they had the speaker phone on with a chick doing phone sex.

Sounded like a great business opportunitiy.

Howdy Old-timer! :thumbsup

Started same time as you - least on the net side. I introduced me to the net side by building a net server and paying a lot of month for a very small cable - dunno what for, but soon got a clue :winkwink:

That's the very first thing I ever did on the net KRL - slanted existing audiotext biz over to marketing it from the net.

There were no "sponsors" or operations offering commissions at that time and it was the only thing I could think of without handling physical product.

I was the first to video tape Kristina for a teen paysite I had up for a few months. The website no longer exists. I'm a SeriousGold affiliate who promotes her site. I just remember the first time I watched the trailers thinking, "fuck, these are pro!"
