It's a universal sport and once you leave the borders of the USA, you'll appreciate it.

Actually I am surrounded by soccer my whole life, but never found it a bit interesting.

Soccer is the "watching paint dry" of the sports world

Football rocks. Not american football. Real football. Shouldn't american football be called handball anyways? Or watch-my-gay-ass-toss-and-run-with-a-ball..ball?

I don't appreciate any sports, I hate them all!

I wouldn't say that, e.g. beach volleyball played by some hot chicks can be pretty entertaining.

I think you can even be more specific and say why would you care about the World Cup?

It's one of the few opportunities for many countries to compete on a global level and get behind their country. A billion people supposedly watched the first game. That is unreal.

I do not like ANY sports, whether "hot" people are involved is totally irrelevant.

Hot chicks are not "entertaining".

The only thing that gets me hot is money.

I'm not much of a soccer fan myself, and I have my reasons... but I'd never knock anyone else for liking it, or any other sport.

If more than 2 people play it, there must be something to it... so I let them enjoy it. It just doesn't mean that I have to.

Tuga 06-10-2006 04:33 AM

Because it's the greatest sport in the world.

nico-t 06-10-2006 04:44 AM

youll enjoy it once you bet on it.

Take the world cup MVP this year and if he is lucky , he can come be a field goal kicker in the NFL. They couldn't play him at any other position for fear of him getting hurt.

The guys in the NFL are so much bigger, stronger and faster it is not even fair to compare the two sports.

Pornostatic 06-10-2006 05:03 AM

it's FOOTBALL and it's the best game in the WORLD ... come on ENGLAND :thumbsup

Relish XXX 06-10-2006 05:16 AM

Face facts it unites the world once every 4 years.

Relish XXX 06-10-2006 05:23 AM

I always love it how people into American Soccer say their guys are more tougher (didnt realise it was a fight) while walking around in pads and a helmet.

In sports, it is more fun to watch better athletes. The NFL and NBA is made up of better athletes than the soccer leagues.

Football is technically described as a "collision" sport instead of a "contact" sport. The players are so fast and powerful, without wearing helmets and pad, people would get killed.

Soccer is a sport our children play because it is a very simple sport that you can enjoy if you are not athletic.

gooddomains 06-10-2006 05:35 AM

If any sport is for tough guys, then it's english or australian rugby

I guess you just have to have been around football to understand the speed and power involved.

Again, rugby players make it to the NFL, they are punters.

Its just not fair to compare the NFL to soccer or rugby.

RogerV7 06-10-2006 05:41 AM

never cared for it. i hate the fucking game

Roald 06-10-2006 05:44 AM

and thats good.. anyone can play, you can be short or tall or fat or skinny.. doesn't really matter.. all you need are 4 rocks and a ball and you've got a game..

not true about the athlets though.. people playing in higher levels are fit as fuck and even our local 3rd division team in norway works out 7 days a week and have contracted pros to built their fitness.. soccer is a serious business and even lower league teams buy players free from work to work out more..

ps.. cut the ads and make the nba players run for 90 minutes.. how many of them could do that?

FunForOne 06-10-2006 05:46 AM

The actual games are unwatchable, but I appreciate the world cup tournament. I'll read the articles about it. I read an article the other day about how people treat the Americans and throw stuff at them. One US player was treated for acid burns.

Its is an obvious venue for the world to show their hatred. Thats fine. The thing that bothers most eurpeans is that even if they beat the US team, nobody in American will care or even know. They want me to cry to the superiority of their athletic skills over my country. The simple fact is that we dont care about soccer.

I dont watch the table tennis championships either, why should we care about soccer.

Helmets are for pussies

Relish XXX 06-10-2006 05:48 AM

So you are saying it is better to watch some athelete run around with the ball as fast as possible as opposed to a skilled football player?

God can you fuck off back to the anti iraq war threads and keep insisting that Osama Bin Laden is in Iraq with Saddams WMDs.

Sarah_Jayne 06-10-2006 05:48 AM

it is one of those things where you either do or you don't. Hard to explain unless you do.

In a lot of ways it is the childhood bonding with your father thing that used to be the cased with American men and their father's with baseball. So, from that young age it gets into your blood.

I'm American by birth but I played soccer/football as a kid and learned to love it that way. Then when moving here ten years ago I arrived smack in the middle of Euro '96 which is sort of like a mini world cup. From being thrown in at the deep end I learned that at that level it isn't just the game that is involved but national pride and in many ways it is a soap opera played out on grass. ahhhh

Try watching football some time (and I mean real football, not some lame league they have in the US) and than say again they are not athletic lol

:2 cents:

Actually, basketball players are the best all around athletes in any sport. Its the combination of speed, agility, strentgh and stamina.

Picture a 6'6" 240 lb guy that is lightening quick, runs faster than 99.9% of the population, has a 40+ inch verticle and can shoot a ball in a basket from 20 feet away and make it 50+% of the time with people guarding him.

I was reffering to that for kids sports.

The soccer guys are athletic relative to the general population, but you cant compare them to professional basketball and football players.

Speed and quickness is one thing, but combine that with strenght and power.

SkyWalker2k 06-10-2006 05:59 AM

no idea, hate soccer... nahh its fun :D

Vitasoy 06-10-2006 06:09 AM

World cup.. and it doesn't happen every year.
