yes, it's one of the more common vehicles used for conversion. it already runs diesel (hence the 300"D" model) so really the only thing that needs to be changed is a redirect in the fuel line and a switch installed on the dash.

however! i still need a new transmission for it - that part is slipping steadily.

start looking on websites or junkyard and ask around.

I believe the term is Post-Op, not Rebuilt

There are several great u pull it type places with pre pulled and pre rebuilt trannys around the bay area. Most that I vaguely recall are around Concord, Martinez, Antioch, Stockton, Lodi. Not sure if bart is to keen with someone lugging one of those on board.

Call my Pal Santiago at Capital Auto Salvage in Gardena. (310) 323-4242

Tell him to put out a call on the hot line and see what he can find. He's a good guy. Tell him I will hook him up with some T-shirts and other porn stuff if he finds you a good deal.

If he finds one you can have it delivered over to a shop in your area usally at no additional charge.

Wonder if there is a rebuild kit for it? Can't say I know much about Mercedes. Do know they have rebuild kits dating back to the at least the 80s for Ford trucks. Rebuild beats a used transmission for sure. Typically you get a good warranty too.

Any diesel-powered car can run biodiesel :)

Have you looked into converting to an electric car? No more oil changes, no more exhaust. You can get a range of 100-150 miles out of them right now. Once your first batch of batteries dies in five years you'll be able to increase that range significantly, with the breakthroughs in supercapacitors coming out around that time.

I think of it this way, by converting to electric you're simplifying your vehicle and allowing it to run from any fuel.

Want to run it off biodiesel? Simply convert a diesel generator to charge it. It's like electricity is universal currency & having a vehicle that only burns gas or diesel or hydrogen is being stuck with the barter system & only growing one crop.

http://germanstar.net/tranmb.htm may have what you need.

Come to Lawless Canada. I'm sure there's lots of transmissions up here. All the trannies are in the US. ;)

Are you in the town? A friend of mine owns a shop in Daily City, if you're interested I can put you two in contact.

I helped my friend convert his to WVO (waste vegetable oil). That bastard has been driving for months for about $0.07 per gallon. I never thought I would be jealous of someones gas mileage.

but to answer the question about the tranny, be sure that it does need replacing. the 300D is notorious for having vacuum leaks in the tranny shift system that can cause it to seem like a big problem, when it's only a vac problem. although, sometimes the vacuum actuators can be expensive too.

If you would be around here (central europe) then I'd have some very good friends that could take of your transmissions. They only repair transmissions for BMW and MB for over 25 years. But that probabbly won't be an option.

i love old skool benzo's

How much is bio diesel in the US at the moment?

TheJimmy 06-10-2006 01:01 AM

http://www.junkyarddog.com I have a few other links if that turns up nothing...But seriously I'd check locally and just see who in the area can hook you up. If you're still in SD I'd scope all the way from LA down to where you are, I'm sure you can get a decent rate on a rebuild...
