The Emergency Broadcast System is FUCKING USELESS.

Can someone please explain to me why it is still around and what its purpose even is anymore?

I used to love those tests they'd do every day...

Aside from fucking up some shows, I still fail to see the point of them anymore.

exactly, since what happened on 9/11 -- did anyone hear that annoying beeping? I sure didn't -- so what is the use of it, if the coutry is under attack and they don't use it

Because if there was a storm or something and they want to tell people to get to shelter or wutever the nature of the storm so they have this alert system thing were all tv station will notify people in that area.

Cox cable does a required monthly and weekly test here. The only problem is that they do each of them every day.

I've never seen it do anything. If part of it is scrolling warnings on the screen, local affiliate stations do that anyway.

Um it does not effect all tv stations just the main ones (abc, cbs, nbc, fox) and a few selective ones other than that.

When severe weather kicks up the news channel breaks in. Same as what has happened during every single large event most of my adult life.

Tornado areas use other means often, yet most of the country never see's these.

So again why is it needed anymore?
Anyone know if we "tax payers" pay for it in some way?
