another server question
I am new to working with servers and know I have been posting alot of questions about it, thanks for all the help you guys have given me.
I often use the FTP in DOS to transfer files, but when I stop to make a drink or anything for that matter the FTP disconnects because of inactivity and makes me login all over again. Is there a way to change this so that it will not log off by it's self? |
Try drinking something else.
Actually I have no idea :glugglug |
Wait, what kind of FTP server are you using ??
|
Thats all on the servers end, most likely 300 second timeout, it can be changed on the server
|
If you are the Admin of the FTP server and allowed to change its settings than you can configure it not to timeout.
|
I don't know how to do it in dos but with an ftp client you can set it to keep the connection open for you.
|
Does having root shell access give me the admin. power to change this setting?
I know there are better FTP Clients but I often switch computers and got use to the MS-DOS FTP. |
Hey, if you are root than you can do whatever you want :)
|
Dyna? Where are ya?
|
kenny, what kind of ftp daemon are you running on your server?
try typing "ftpd -v" (without quotes) when you are root. it should output the name of the ftp daemon and the version. then find some documentation for that daemon. i'm pretty sure it's a WuFTPd program. if you need more help, hit me up 11611813 |
Some advise, that timeout is there for your protection, you wouldnt want to forget to log out of ftp, and then have someone with malicious intent abuse the ftp privelages you left open.
