Oilers should win in 6. Adding Roloson in exchange for prospects was a stroke of genius by Kevin Lowe, who knows from winning a handful of Cups that the man in the net is the most important thing in the playoffs.

I agree with the OP that Oilers will win in 6, and Roloson will win the Conn Smythe for being the playoff MVP.

Plus, I hate the Hurricanes... being a Caps fan, it's easy to do.

That was my call on MP bets prior to tonight and I'd stick to it.

Why the so called experts are picking the Oilers, besides the refreshing week off they got, is beyond me. The Hurricanes were statistically the 4th best team in the league, while the Oilers barely made the playoffs.

However, I'll also be the first to admit that the Oilers DID dominate tonight. Hopefully that's a sign of fresh legs as opposed to actually being the better team...which I just don't think they are.

Note-I'd have called you out and thrown a personal bet of $250 at you (before the series started, not that you're down 1-0), because of your post, but I notice (literally as I'm posting) that Roloson is out for the series, so I'll refrain.

i'ts all over with rollie out for the series. i can't fucking believe it.

Couple other notes-

-The two guys I was sitting with said Pronger wouldn't score on his penalty shot...because he was a defenseman (eesh). I predicted he would.

-Ales Hemsky has some serious fuckin' moves.

-Jason Smith was AS reponsible, if not MORE than Conklin over the giveaway, if for no other reason that Smith plays everyday and should be wary of a goalie than hasn't played in a month and a half.

-Dwayne (the helmet tosser) Roloson WILL be back before the series is over, despite what Craig MacTavish says... ''Goalie's not good, (he) won't be back in the series,'' Oilers Craig MacTavish said after the game. ''It's an unfortunate set of circumstances to have happen, obviously with Rollie playing as well as he has been.''

edmonton the first three rounds for the msot part were completely outplayed, and they capitalized on turnovers to win key games. i think theyve been outshot at a ~1.4:1 ratio so far.

they cant pull this shit against carolina.. especially since roloson is fucked

Maybe it's based on the fact that they're here, and they've been looking good all through the playoffs for the most part.

Some of you (like Myst for example) seem to have completely zoned out on the concept of the underdog winning. Can some of you seriously not recall when this situation in hockey has occured and the team least likely to succeed ends up taking it all?

And when a lead goalie is taken out I don't so easily give up hope. The backup goaltenders are NHL quality or they wouldn't be there. There's no reas whatsoever why one of them can't step up and surprise everyone with some solid net-minding.

Nope, I'm not betting on this series, my original post isn't so overconfindent and smug (like some others in this thread are), I still say it's any team's game. Edmo played an amazing first two periods last night, if they can continue to play like that and keep that momentum up they do have a shot at this.

That said, I will add that I am so looking forward to game 2. This series is off to one hell of a start, I hope it continues at this pace. :D
