summer sloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwddddddddddooooooooowwwwwwn nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. THe internal traffic to my sites is much higher but lower sales. However partner traffic converts exactly the same.
My traffic is up about 16% but my conversions went from 1:500 to 1:1200... It did this last year right after gas went up, summer began and the Fed. announced higher rates coming...
By July people relaxed and became acclimated to the current economic climate and things were back to normal..
Just don't give up. There is money out there, just keep trying new things.
Pick different sponsors (3-4) and keep sending them traffic for a few weeks. See what converts the best. Then shift the majority of your traffic to the #1 sponsor for the last 2 periods. Re-shuffle every 2 periods.
Today just might break our records for us. Currently our site http://www.brokestraightboys.com is converting at 1/94 for all traffic. Even if you don't promote us just change up sponsors until you find something that works for you.

Then why is Amazon's 4th quarter always the strongest compared to the summer months? Consumers spend more during the winter than in the summer months, you can't just defy the facts.
You forgot to mention a very large % of their total sales during the 4th quarter is done in a 10 days timeframe and of course this is due to Christmas holidays. There are significant differences between amazon and paysites which i'm sure you are aware of.
Let me reverse the question... have you experienced a drop in sales so far this month compared to May?

Compared to May I can't tell yet, June is only 2 days old. Comparing last year's Summer months (July/August 2005) to Winter (November/December 2004) months I would say overall volume was down around 7-12%. Ask around other programs they will come up with similar numbers I am sure. Then again, there are always exceptions to the rule. Some affiliates might do better in some periods than in others. But overall you can not defy the rules of the market. The summer consumer is a weaker spender than the winter consumer. Christmas or not, this is part of marketing 101.
I might be mistaking you for somebody else, but why do always have to bring up the shaving myth?
You see, I won't deny a possible 7-12% sales drop as outcome of traffic drop. This doesn't explain why ratios go several times up accross many programs.
As far "shaving myth" i guess you represent all aff. programs now right?
Yep signups sucks ass !
Been online since late 96 and it's my worst stretch ever.
Lots of things involved, summer, everything costs too much these days, shaving, too much freebies around, fucking trojan shit, people afraid to do online transactions etc....etc...etc....
Fuck the net, let's start a religion instead $$$$$$$$ Plus we get to fuck all the chicks hehehehehehehehe

Very simple. Small numbers (<50 signups a period) paired with the random nature of signups. That's what makes ratios jump up and down. 5 sales which might yield 1:1000 while with just a couple (random effect of small numbers) more or less signups ... the difference easily becomes 30-40%, which upon first glance looks like a huge difference.
If signups we not random but instead if SIGNUPS WERE PREDICATABLE (!) ON ADULT TRAFFIC... then everybody would still pay per click.

Nope, but I'm trying to use common sense that's all. I think it's a bit unfair that whenever somebody complains about bad ratios people love to bring out the shave argument. It's prudent to be critical about your business partners, but constantly assuming you're being cheated day and night won't do you any good.
I believe that is a much bigger deal than people realize.
People who have the refcode redirect trojans don't see popups, have their computers slowing down, or notice anything else negative so they have no clue they're infected.

David - PG, I don't disagree it's wrong to draw conclusions from low figures, but from the little I know about Fucksakes he's in position not to commit such newbie mistake.
It was fraud that made PPC model to vanish from the adult industry, not the predictability of it. That one never changed and a program owner should be in position to forecast the patterns of traffic in his sites assuming he can manage the quality, therefore payout accordingly. Occasionally I bring on table another form of fraud to serve as reminder because many aff. are not aware of the extend it takes.
heh, no shit, I have several sponsors whose conversions are the same all year round and I have others that take a big crap every june, go figure

Think this "free hosted galleries" business model is pretty much a case of sponsors pissing in their own traffic pool. They are so intent on making better galleries than their competition, they have created a situation where there is not much incentive to buy porn anymore.
In spite of the claims of "great conversions", you can often make more pointing adult names to a parking service now than you can sending traffic to sponsors. Thats why parking services are getting so popular with domain owners.

not everything is doing worse in the summer...you can't compare online porn and electronics and other stuff at amazon
