I have no idea. I'm pretty careful with my cc info on the web and go so far as to shred all snail mail info before throwing it out.

Cams.com said the info didn't match up properly so that's how they knew it wasn't me. Perhaps they just guessed the number? I don't know if a transaction would go through with a false name or not.

Strange thing is they haven't purchased anything else at all, just a webcam membership lol

i never buy anything online with my credit card cause i know someone will try to fraud my card and buy something with it. But it's a good thing that the website caught it before you.

that's the weird thing; all I really use this card for online is to pay for webhosting, statsremote and domains. I don't think I've used it online for anything else since doing christmas shopping last year.

it makes me wonder if somebody's DB got hacked into or if it was an employee somewhere...

Majority of card stealers are from restaurants, not online. Think back to any stores you used your card at, and you're more likely on the right trail.

Kiwigirl 06-02-2006 02:02 PM

Sorry to hear about the misuse of your card.
It has happened to my hubby and I several times.
The last time it happened they racked up over $1500.
Everything they purchased was web related and our bank did
not see anything unusal with that. It wasn't until a server company
contacted us to thank us for using there services that we realised
that our details had been stolen. Thank goodness we got all the cash back though.
:)

bingo, I used to manage a restaurant for 2 years, 2 waiters from the place next door were caught with a 'parrot' - a little device that they carry in their pockets , customer gives them his CC, they swipe it, and all it takes is 3 seconds

Some one in Zimbabwe(sp?) tried to buy a plane ticket on my ex girlfriends AMEX card once. They caught it and called her about it before processing it.

But she was dumb and always fell for those phishing emails. :1orglaugh

I haven't used this card for anything offline for months, except for purchasing gasoline. But even then it never leaves my hand, I just swipe it at the pump. The attendant never sees it.

Unless somebody took my info last year and has been sitting on it since then, I'm pretty sure it must have been taken online somehow.

HpicAnn 06-02-2006 02:31 PM

LUCKY YOU!!:winkwink:

madawgz 06-02-2006 03:21 PM

Wolfy 07-17-2006 06:19 AM
