svchost.exe <-- what the hell is that?

Theo 06-02-2006 10:43 AM

it's a host process activity that usually at XP you see it up to 5 times; basically it handles processes executed by dlls. One of the stupid things about xp is that you cant tell what exactly this process you see is all about and vista will remain the same, but instead 5 its like 500 now lol

Busy is always nice :)!

TheSenator 06-02-2006 10:54 AM

Bloated... that much memory usage

lazycash 06-02-2006 10:56 AM

run - msconfig - startup and uncheck some of those unless your happy with all those processes at startup. I agree it can be difficult trying to discern what the processes correspond to. I'm guessing you must have a decent amount of ram.

I like my win2000

mardigras 06-02-2006 11:01 AM

That's just crazy!:Oh crap
Hopefully someone will post a nice guide detailing everything that can be disabled without making the system unstable.

SearchIndexer I've heard about.. that can be turned off.

But what is the dwm.exe that seems to take up so much memory?

can u post up the child protection settings?

when you create a new profile/logon, looking to see if they have the child protection pre-checked, or you have to check it.

Fight the pre-checked!
