Hotel recomendations in New York?

We'll be making a few days stop in New York prior to Internext in Florida this year. Can you recomend us a good hotel for $200-300 per night? Prefably, but not 100% necessary, right next to Times Square. Stayd in that area last time and found it to be an excellent startingpoint.

There are over 300 hotels listed at Tripadvisor so it makes it a bit hard to choose :)

Thanks for your help!

Ahhh The Drake. On the NYC leg of our honeymoon, we were made to feel welcome by the attentive staff. Our room was upgraded to a lovely suite, and we were walking distance to Central Park,Carnegie Hall, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall and the Museum Of Modern Art.

Don't miss lunch at the Carnegie Deli, and don't expect to be able to eat a whole sandwich. OMG! What I wouldn't give for a cuppa matzah ball soup and a mile high pastrami on rye.

For something a that's more eclectic and right in the heart of Times Square, it's the Paramount Hotel! From the hand banged silver chaise lounge in the lobby, to the most amazing workout room, it smacks of Dali meets The Ricardos. Staffed by the most BEAUTIFUL ppl and a tasty concierge who directed me to a kinky Village nightclub, without a blink of his dark dreamy eyes.

The Paramount was my favorite spot, when business took me to the Javits Center and walking distance to the theatre district. Head over to Duffy Plaza on 47th St. and get in line for half-priced tickets, and don't forget to check out the statue of George M. Cohan in the square.

Travel Zoo has a few deals.

Stay between 19th street and 32nd street, between Park and 6th.

2hp

sweetcuties 06-02-2006 04:41 AM

I never even thought about TravelZoo... I use hotel.com for most of my stuff, just booked a Chicago trip.

Anna_O 06-02-2006 04:44 AM

Thanks :) The Paramount seems pretty nice. Any more recomendations?

2hp, any good hotel located there? And why lower Manhattan? Better restaurants and clubs?

Anna_O 06-02-2006 04:49 AM

That Travel zoo site did have some good deals... Checking them out now :)

Anna_O 06-02-2006 04:51 AM

Hmmm... Checked the Paramount on tripadvisor.com and they don't seem to be too impressed...

Been 3 years since I stayed there .. but I loved it. The rooms were small, is all the fault I could find with my stay there.

:eek7 Me, I never trust the on-line reviews, not since one of them gave The Hotel Penn 4 stars. Nasty place!

Well, we mainly use online reviews on tripadvisor as an indication but never trust them entirely. So far we have never been disapointed :) Maybe the standard has changed since you were there? What most people complained about was just the small room though.

RainGurl 06-02-2006 05:36 AM

this is where i stay in NYC:
http://www.themusehotel.com
Right in Times Square, close to everything... luxury linens, great dining, the conceirge can get you pretty much whatever you want.

nestle 06-02-2006 05:37 AM

I'd second The Drake (Swissotel). I am not sure what the prices are like though since I was there for a consultant meeting a few weeks back and everything was covered for me. My host also had the hotel cater food for us and their service was impeccable.

That's only the second time I've been to NYC so I only recommend it because of my one but great experience there. :)

Have fun!

Anna_O 06-02-2006 06:00 AM

The Muse seems nice :) The Drake is sold out during our dates...

RainGurl 06-02-2006 06:24 AM

it really is a great hotel. i've stayed there probably a dozen times. the staff is awesome. its tucked out of the way so you're not kept awake by time square, but close enough to anything you want to do there or in the theatre district.

Will definitely give it som consideration.

With this one we have three hotels that we are choosing among atm... Please feel free to give us more :) I'm off to the gym now, back to check this in a couple of hours.

JerseyPuma 06-02-2006 07:23 AM

Novotel is walking distance to Times Square, its on W 52nd right next to Gallagher's steakhouse (yum). Served us well while we were there, and pretty reasonable.

DaveMsM 06-02-2006 07:52 AM

the W:pimp

Sarah_Jayne 06-02-2006 07:54 AM

I stayed at the Belvedere last time I was there. It was a decent place..not flashy but clean and decent. The location was good as it was just a block or two off time square so you could easily get there without having to be in it all the time.

candyflip 06-02-2006 08:19 AM

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Westin Times Square. I've lived in the city and when I go that's the only place I'll stay. Just something one Times Square.

Anna_O 06-02-2006 01:31 PM

Well, Westin is good for our Starpoints balance :) It looks like a nice hotel so now we have one more to choose from...

Elixir 06-02-2006 02:44 PM

Man use Google Earth you have even the numbers there...

Good to know. The deal we are interested in expire on June 9th so then we can wait for another wednesday before deciding.

Is there anything fun to do on Long Island? If so, then we might go there :)

Lots of people seem to like the W... It's definitely a contender, but I've heard the rooms are pretty small?

Very nice been there a few times myself.. Lots of night life within walking distance. Might be a lil bit more then what you want to pay $200-$300/night will be hard in NYC. :2 cents:

This looks like a very cool place too! Question is if it's worth the extra money... Do you prefer lower Manhattan over Times Square?

I would never stay in times square its so dirty. This hotel is located in the meat packing disctrict there are a ton of nice resturants and night clubs.. Its also really close to soho & village. I preffer this part of the city.

Looked it up on Tripadvisor and it has gotten some great reviews. Damn, now you made it even harder to choose a hotel ;)

i have no idea, never stayed there... last time i was in NY i stayed at the marriot grand marquis for fucking $500 a night and that hotel was a piece of shit

ugly decor, my room didnt even have a fuckin minibar in it... couldnt buy any water or anything

the only thing good about that place was the revolving restaraunt "the view" which was so so

i hope the W is better, i prefer the hole in wall joints for food :)

That's a good choice. There might be too much going on there for you though.

The W Union square is my favorite overall because of location (the coolest in the city) and the rooms. The W - Tuscany and W - The Court both have better rates and equally nice rooms plus a very cool bar below as all of the W's in NY seem to.

If you don't want to stay at one of those go to www.tablethotels.com and pick from their selection. It's the only way to be sure you are staying in a decent hotel in NY. Those other travel sites are for Japanese tourists or your mom. I think you can get a room at The Hudson for $229 on that site.

Anna_O 06-02-2006 05:42 PM

Pornwolf, great site there tablehotels.com. Found even more nice hotels and you made our lives even harder ;) You might be right though about the Gansevoort, we won't be partying much i NY... Will do plenty of that once we get to Miami and Internext.

Well, time for bed now. Will check this thread again tomorrow for even more hotels. It's no fun when it's easy to choose ;)

digifan 06-02-2006 06:09 PM

I bet you'll stay at home being not able to choose now... j/k. Anyway have fun, you are good people ;)

Sosa 06-02-2006 06:30 PM

I usually like any Westin room.

J. Falcon 06-02-2006 08:31 PM

Bump for you.

Have fun in New York! :thumbsup

MaddCaz 06-02-2006 08:31 PM

I can only afford Motel 4

Thanks Judy :) You are such a sweetie :)

Luckily we already have chosen a hotel in Miami and then the show is at the Westin... Otherwise it's almost possible that we would've had to stayed home :winkwink:
