Good Digital Photo Camera?

I'm looking for a good digital photo camera for my Mom's birthday... or a Standard Photo Cam.

I have $300 to spend... so I guess I'm better with the standard one at a cheaper price?

Any tips & infos would be appreciated. A small cam that you can put in your pocket would do the trick.

When you mean "standard"..do you mean SLR or compact 35?

Either way, with all the digital influx into the market, regular cameras, especially the big SLR have gone ...way cheap.

For 300 bucks, you can get a pretty decent digital one with 2 to 3 megs.

Do you have a Best Buy near you?

For $349 you can get the <a href="http://kodak.com/global/images/mul/digital/easyShare/dx3900/dx3900Bundled.jpg" target="_blank">Kodak DX3900</a> with 3.1 megapixels. The dock is extra money but it's not necessary.

But for only $299 on sale at Circuit City..

You can get a Sharp Hi-8 Camcorder!! (<a href="http://sharpelectronics.com/images/cam_VLAH151U_pic1.jpg" target="_blank">this one</a>) Yeah I know it's not digital but hell, why not video tape your mom?

Just spend $5.99 and get one of those 'one time' use cameras if you really want to take pictures of her.

agreed - the only thing I dont like about it - is that it is a little slow to recycle in shooting - if your shooting like 10 pictures in 10 seconds

Get a Minolta Dimage X for $333 + shipping...

The stores around NJ have this camera for around $333 -- it's the world's smallest and thinnest 3x optical zoom digital camera -- it has a very fast startup time (the fastest?) -- and the reviews of picture quality came up w/ good remarks -- all metal case -- it's smaller than the Cannon Elph... supposedly it's easy to use. In stores you may find it if you are lucky for $400 -- buy it online. I did a lot of reading about the Dimage X and I'm definitely going to get one.

Real clean design -- I think for a woman it's a nice looking camera too...

this tiny fucking camera is only .8 inch... and it can record a movie at 15 frames/second at 320x240 for 35 seconds... WITH SOUND! haha...

You got to splurge and get this ;)

DO NOT TOUCH Olympus! Go for Fuji every time.

I saw this in Target -- there are several different models... really make sure you know what you are buying because some of the models (the one in Target) got horrible reviews... One of the main things I noticed with it and read -- it has a real slow processor so it has a long delay booting up and between photos -- I think the Dimage X has a very fast RISC processor... also the Dimage X has an image processing algorithm that does color compensation, etc. and it got good reviews from most places I read -- do your research -- don't get a bum camera...

THIS LINK RULES! DON'T buy a camera w/o checking this link...

Steve is the SHIT -- these are the most comprehensive reviews you will find ANYWHERE in ANY photo magazine either -- the guy even goes through EVERY fucking pulldown menu and option the camera has -- it's a totally amazing site!

TheFLY 05-24-2002 05:11 PM

One more thing -- if you decide on the DimageX -- make sure you buy the "Secure Digital" memory SD -- and not the MMC -- I read that the SD memory is slightly faster...

More cool shit about this camera... ;) No, I have no stock in Minolta ;)

"The Minolta DiMAGE X has a 12-bit A/D conversion that can provide a fine tonal gradation, with deep shadows, brilliant highlights and millions of colors, up to 4,096 levels in each
RGB channel and more than 68 billion colors. Minolta's 12-bit A/D conversion provides
exquisite details in portraiture: smooth complexion, rich shadows and luminous highlights,
as opposed to the standard 10-bit A/D conversion with its limited 1,024 levels per RGB
channel."

If you are looking for an entry level digital cam for around $300 or so try out the Nikon Coolpix 775.

Decent cam.

Not going to go much higher than 2.2 megapixels for $300 but you will be pleasently surprised with the results!

ADIDAS 05-25-2002 01:22 AM

Canon puts out another good one!

Might try www.compusa.com or www.outpost.com to do some price caparison!
