MPAA & The White House behind the closing of The Pirate Bay

yay, sources told STV's "Rapport" (main swedish television channel) that MPAA & the White House preassured the Swedish goverement who in turn put preassure on the police (who's site is currently down, hackers paying back) to take down http://thepiratebay.org/.

Here's the news (only in swedish, sorry): http://svt.se/svt/road/Classic/share...52447&a=602092

Didn't the Swedish goverment also pressure a host to shut down a website that published the Muhammed cartoons?

for The Piracy Bay?
don't worry, your clients actually claimed they killed "Palme" (old prime minister) during the questioning with the Police. they let them go :)

Not everything shared by bittorrent is violating copyright.:2 cents:

pocketkangaroo 06-01-2006 06:59 PM

I'm guessing that a majority of the stuff on there was violating a copyright. People can use it but why bash the government for going after something that was technically illegal. I guess if you don't like it, change the laws? Don't vote for the guys in power in Sweden who bow down to the US demands?

madawgz 06-01-2006 07:00 PM

i guess i should open livetorrents.com again :winkwink:

this news seriously sucks :(

there where no Illegal files on the server, it was just a bittorrent tracker. the actual files are distributed from ppl's home computers, only thing on the servers where .torrent files.
the Police also managed to sweep the whole server room taking down 2 political party's homepages, both of which are running in the upcoming elections. both of which are promoting "sensitive issues" like free public transportation and copyright issues. and that is political censorship, something that's not going to fly in court.

No, I will vote for the piracy party (one of the sites that was taken down).

That's good. Blame your own government for bowing to other government's requests.

What's funny about this is as soon as they are back up, they would have gotten so much more exposure from all of this than anyone against ThePirateBay could have imagined.

Whoever triggered this, it's a pretty dumb move on their part and probably never thought about the consequences of what would happen if the site just bounced right back.

it's still old fashioned business men making the descisions, they have no grasp of the internet and viral marketing. good for TPB :)

warner bros just signed a deal with bit torrent, what a concept embrace technology instead of fighting it...WB will have movie trailers on BT sites
