Someone did. But they shall remain nameless.

Oh and you wouldn't believe how many Americans think that Henry Ford invented the Car.

Automobile with Combustion Engine (~1920)
The automobile was probably the most significant invention in the 20's. Although an automobile, which was powered by steam, was invented in 1866, this car was moved by a fuel powered combustion engine. Invented by Henry Ford, these cars were more affordable to the public and were made by the hundreds to sell. The "Model-T" was the fist car to roll off the assembly line, and into the hearts of the Americans. The people could even pick any color they desired, "as long is it's black". By 1927, the "Model-T"was found on the streets across America. The coming of the automobile created more jobs, better transportation, and more significantly, cultural changes. Suddenly people were dating more often and going on vacations. Henry Ford later founded the famous Ford Company.

It is a shame that there are people who feel the need to place importance in such subjects.

The automobile powered by the Otto gasoline engine was invented in Germany by Karl Benz in 1885. Benz was granted a patent dated 29 January 1886 in Mannheim for that automobile. Even though Benz is credited with the invention of the modern automobile, several other German engineers worked on building automobiles at the same time. In 1886, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in Stuttgart patented the first motor bike, and in 1889 they built a converted horse-drawn stagecoach. In 1870, German-Austrian inventor Siegfried Marcus assembled a motorized handcart, though Marcus's

MattO 06-01-2006 11:59 AM

Yea, stuff that wasn't invented in America was usually invented by Europeans that were trying to make some $ so that they could come over to the US. It was their only way out of a world of plague, famine and bad hygene.

You can probaly put that one right up there with the electric powered backup generator.

Verbal Kint 06-01-2006 12:01 PM

Henry Ford improved the assembly line for automobile manufacturing (Model-T), invented a transmission mechanism, and popularized the gas-powered automobile

For those that aren't in the know. The Big Dig was a brilliant project first concieved in the 70's but officially proposed in the mid 80's and estimated to cost around $2.5 Billion. It was basically to relieve congestion on Boston roads and Highways. In about 1995 or so they cleared everything and started on the project with a projected end date of 2002 or so.

Plagued by criminal misconduct and budget problems....30 years from it's conception and $16 Billion later it still has not been completed.

This is the problem with having public school systems that are designed to stamp out kids lie some automated cookie cutter. I've been spending years trying to re-learn all the wrong crap that they taught us in school.

Yet for some reason even though America sucks so bad, millions of people immigrate here yearly, giving us the highest rate of immigrants in the world. I love what my country USED to stand for, or at least what we as people understood it to be. It seems to me that it(gov) and we(the people) no longer have the same intentions or heart.

I was outside of Fenway Park. Though it was an away game. It was complete mayhem. Police decked out in full riot gear with armored "personal vehicles". One of a kind sports experience. :thumbsup
