Kazaa is folding

Which means better conversions :)

People use it to get porn movies and such, well, no longer...

now tgp needs to go and everything will be perfect :)

"KaZaA has announced that it will fold due to the cost of defending itself against the RIAA & MPAA. The timing is notable since on Monday, Altnet (owned by Brillant Digital) announced plans for "sponsored listings in peer-to-peer search" on its "separate [and] secure P2P resource-sharing network"

Brown Bear 05-24-2002 11:19 AM

I'm sorry to tell you, but Kazaa aint the only game in town.

FATPad 05-24-2002 11:20 AM

Hate to tell you...there are way more p2p networks out there than just kazaa.

Kazaa going down is good, but it's not going to change anything.

FlyingIguana 05-24-2002 11:20 AM

they'll just move to another p2p program...

payrollpete 05-24-2002 11:22 AM

but when the big guy falls, the smaller ones eventually do as well...

:)

look at the mob for example

Brown Bear 05-24-2002 11:22 AM

People said the same thing when Napster went down. Nothing changed.

dipshit moron retard 05-24-2002 11:25 AM

hate or love kazaa you have to admit it fucking sucks when just lawyer fees are enough to put you out of business, regardless of the verdicts or eventual outcome.

a1ka1ine 05-24-2002 11:25 AM

hmm.

i think p2p is evolving, and we are going to have to live with the sad truth it will be stealing business.

the smart ones however take advantage of p2p... ;)

mwahahahahahha

the bulldog 05-24-2002 11:28 AM

SHIT !!!

I only have about 2 weeks to download every music album and porn movie ever created................. damn :( :(

payrollpete 05-24-2002 11:30 AM

just use audiogalaxy.com they r never under fire :)

and they only serve tunes

TheFLY 05-24-2002 11:31 AM

This is good news. Lawsuits are easy to pass out too... and the average male is not willing to download a new p2p program every week just so he can get lucky w/ an un-thumbnailed movie that may or may not be just an ad for a freesite...

Let's face it -- information wants to be free, but don't you still feel a little guilty when you download all of that stolen shit for free?

Bottom line is that p2p is 99% theft -- and no amount of nerds whining changes that. There will always be techies to steal shit but I'm guessing that's only 1% of internet traffic.

Stevie Ward 05-24-2002 11:38 AM

Time to look into Digital Rights Management software ;-)

payrollpete 05-24-2002 11:38 AM

thefly has made a good point

its all good for music, who cares about their shitty overpriced cd's with 2 likeable songs priced at $20 bux :)

FreeNetPass Steve 05-24-2002 11:49 AM

About the 1-2 good songs per CD... have you notcied that there aren't many 'singles' released? Why would money hungry artists allow you to buy the good songs for $3 when you can buy the entire CD for $12-17?

"Boohoo, I can't feed my children. People are stealing from me on by sharing music." The artists are partially the reason music swapping and sharing exist.

payrollpete 05-24-2002 11:50 AM

i agree with you, but it's actually the record companies that wana fuck your pockets :)

the artists get a very small % of the cd sale...

like pennies per cd lol

the record companies are the one who laugh to the bank, unless your like madonna or something

payrollpete 05-24-2002 11:54 AM

when i hear a good mp3 i downloaded, and i have several from the same artist, i usualy buy the cd

it all depends

there are 4 or 5 good cd's i have bought out of like 10,000 mp3's listened to LOL

most of it is crap on a cd with 1 or 2 good songs

have you noticed that they only release the singles that they play on the radio? they cant release a single for every song. why would someone buy a single for a song they havent heard? if they dont buy the cd, chances are the only place they will hear it on the radio or mtv. if they buy the cd they dont want the single (unless you're a dj and you want the instrumental/acapella).

payrollpete 05-24-2002 12:36 PM

lol

record companies r the biggest thiefs

that and oil / gas companies :)

Doctor Dre 05-24-2002 12:45 PM

Kazaalite is still running :D Dunno about normal kazaa status right now .

payrollpete 05-24-2002 12:47 PM

Death to kazaa...

!!!

audiogalaxy all the way!

Jamieboy 05-24-2002 01:00 PM

There is way better p2p progs then shitty kazaa
Now kazaa users might find the good ones :feels-hot

The Machine 05-24-2002 01:24 PM

Unfortunately it's not folding:

"The collapse of Kazaa, however, is not expected to slow trading activity on the company's network, one of the most popular file-sharing sites in the world. Kazaa said it has sold the network to another firm that the music and film industry has not sued yet.

The Web site and the software behind it are now owned by a privately held firm called Sharman Networks, based in Vanuatu, an island in the Pacific. "

payrollpete 05-24-2002 01:29 PM

right there is morpheus

in the end they will die off just like napster did ;)

you can only hide off on offshore corporations for so long!

plus the music industry is built of billion dollar companies, none of these internet companies have that much (ie. kazaa)

DPlayMax 05-24-2002 01:30 PM

only means that there will be another 10 peer to peers tomarrow - to play off of the kazaa downfall

The Machine 05-24-2002 01:32 PM

maybe they can't play that game forever but long enough, unfortunately.

jules180 05-24-2002 01:36 PM

kazaa isnt folding -- what they are saying in the press release is that if they were sued which they have not been yet they would need probobly need to fold. Looks like morpheus will go first since they are already in the middle of a suit.

When will you guys realize that these KaZaA type programs do not affect the industry as far as site memberships go ...

The average KaZaA user knows enough about the internet to get whatever he wants for free ... and chances are knew way before KaZaA ... KaZaA just made it easier for him ...

KaZaA users use it because it is FREE ... you really think they are going to PAY to join a site ??? Not in this lifetime ... they are freeloaders ... and ALWAYS will be !!!

The people who join your sites, for the most part don't want the hassles of finding a movie download, and then trying to download it at maybe 0.5 k/s if you are lucky ... they realize that for a nominal monthly fee, they can have access to TONS of good stuff ... RIGHT NOW ... without the wait ...

And there are plenty of the secont type of people out there ... most of the guys who join paysites are educated, and realize the value and convenience of a GOOD paysite membership ...

Food for thought for all paysite owners ... don't treat all your surfers like 18 year old kids with their cock in there hands ...

Maybe part of why you are not converting the way you'd like to be, is that you have got incorrect preconceived notions on the type of person who becomes a member of your site ??? Knowing the profile of your target audience is a very important step in a sucessful site ...

Sites that "KNOW" their members ... (chat, email, ICQ, etc) usually convert very well ...

Just my :2 cents:

payrollpete 05-24-2002 02:23 PM

you are wrong on that

i did a member poll inside paysites with a bunch of companies

and asked the question

"if you found a good source for free porn would you ever go back to buying memberships"

and most of them answered no

payrollpete 05-24-2002 02:24 PM

not to mention they were paying members already

paying customers turned freeloaders because of a utility like kazaa

you can really get a ton of stuff off kazaa, you'd be surprised :)

What idiot would go back.

I agree with Hungryman, us webmasters and hackers are the ones on Kazaa.
