Do people really believe the democrats can win back the Senate and the Presidency?
 

I find it funny hearing my friends and people on television talking like the dems have any chance of regaining power in this country. Do any of you believe this?

Right now a group of extremists has complete control of this country. Do you really think these are good and honest people who are going to let go of power just because that's what the people want? I don't think so. I think that we're going to see another republican senate and another right wing neo-con extremist win the presidency, maybe Frist or Jeb Bush. Hell maybe Cheney. As long as we continue to accept being brainwashed by the media, they're going to keep stealing elections. We have no democracy. Everyone knows our leaders are now picked by two corporations, Diebold and ES & S, there is no paper trail proving who won and these companies are accountable to no one.

It isn't going to stop until we stand up to them and they're led away in handcuffs. I hope at least some of you out there realize this. And it's not going to be easy. As soon as people start waking up and demanding an end to the administration's curtailment of our civil liberties, as soon as we start demanding international monitoring of our elections, we'll see a wave of brutal terrorist attacks against US civilians. Bush and the neo-cons have repeatedly threatened us with additional acts of terrorism.

If you're one of the sheep who accepts what they're told and obeys when the government tells them that they have to give up their rights, you're probably going to say something stupid about tin foil hats. If you're one of these mindless drones, just shut the fuck up and call me when the neo-cons give up power peacefully.

Does anyone here believe that the republicans will actually let our votes remove them from power?

it's up to the masses, if enough people are fed up with it then yes, they will go. the problem is, I hear people near me talk about how much the hate the republicans and what has happened to this country but in the same breath they tell me they don't vote.

Someone needs to rally the 18-25 crowd that is actually mostly liberal and get them to fucking vote!

My main concern is that I believe that it doesn't matter who votes. As long as through their propaganda they can make it seem like the election will be close, they will use the electronic voting machines to steal the elections as they did in 2004. Dictators don't just step down because the people want them to, and whatever side you stand on there's no denying that Bush is the closest thing any western "democracy" has had to a dictator.

You may be right, but what it comes down to is numbers. If we can get them to vote in masses it will make it much harder for them to cheat and steal. The problem is most people have enough shit to worry about in their immediate lives that they pay no attention to the government.

It may be this election or the next, but the pendulum always swings back. And it always will so long as neither party delivers what people want: or at least not what they really want.

Since WW2 the Republicans promise lower taxes and smaller government and we end up with the economy going downhill and more rules and regulations: people vote Democrat. After the Democrats have been in the White House a while, middle class and working people soon forget why they put them there and start listening to the lower taxes message again. The Republicans come back.

So the lines were blurred a little by people in the flyover states voting against their own best interests as a way of striking out at the city dwellers on the coast who, in their eyes, are undermining America's values. And they have paid dearly for that: almost all the legislation prompted by their grandfathers is gone and their towns are still dying, gays are as high-profile as ever, and the only places where abortion is banned are other countries which want US aid. But it doesn't take a major shift among the uncommitted to change the party of government and it will happen soon enough.
