Download limits even for full paying members?
 

What are you thoughts on this? Is it wrong? Is it OK?

ok, i'll start.. i think its str8 up fraud to put a limit on a full fledged member!

i just joined a paysite as a full member and got this download limit when i tried to mass download their videos

No limits .... but prevent mass-downloaders, mainly if you offer a trial period at reduced cost.

Also, remove older content as you add new one. My members section has reached 100 gigs, and it will not go over that.

i was using a massdownloader Teleport pro.. but either way, im a full paying member, why shouldnt i be able to massdownload it??

i know ftvgirls limits to i think 2 gigs a day.

This thread really makes me stop and think. I can certainly understand why any reasonable program would want to limit downloading.

Programs have the right to set reasonable limits on downloading I would think.

Certainly an interesting argument on each side....

What's mass download? 500 download threads concurrently? Or queing up 500 videos in your DL manager and they download one after another?

We allow #2 but not #1.

Limit them and charge them $3 per gig after. Mo money

if a site limits me... i will chargeback.... the reason.. surfers tend to be sporadic downloaders, so maybe they spend 5 hours on a site one day and then dont visit for another week... :2 cents:

that's exactly what i was gonna do.. it stopped me at like 1.3 gigs... wtf if a nigga wanna download your shit, and hes a paying member, why the fuck can't he do it?

After 1.3 gigs of DL, you are no longuer able to DL anything, even by simply clicking on the link ?

If so, I agree with your position of CB.

But if it just blocks your mass-downloader proggie, I see no problem..

I allow unlimited dl as long as it is human activated ...

there is no limit but a I do prevent them from using spiders to download the whole site. They have to download it one piece at a time.

yea no reason you should limit them. If the content is good and you update daily, they still have a reason to return/re-buy every so often.

Many portals charge by the gigabyte. So it wouldn't take many mass users to run a bill or an asshat to fuck with you.

Forces you to charge more to protect yourself from excessive costs.

There are things you can do though to tend to limit the bandwidth usage and charges etc. Break videos into scenes of a reasonable size so the meber has to be in front of the computer to get the content. The suggestion to remove old content is something I'd hesitate doing.

Working on my first paysite now. This is something I'm concerned about.

Not only the bandwidth, but the content being sucked up and spread all over the net for free.

Price affects re bills as well as site content. Where do you think the sweet spot on pricing is these days?

really though why not limit the trial users to a few connections and like 2 gb's a day and let full members do what they want. That way you dont get raped and its fair to the paying members too.
