Memorial day: Battlefield Tour [photos]
Took a little drive in VA....to a famous battle area on the rappahanock......one of the very few areas that were completely owned by the confederates. With a 10 & in some cases 20 to 1 kill ratio.
First...the rappahannock river. Accross the field you will see land that was owned by George Washingtons mother. The union troops came from the far side....& tried to build a pantoon bridge. The confederates were seated from where i took this photo...& simply sniped the union soldiers for over 24 hours.

Part of the house directly behind my vantage point to the river...has authentic 1800's battle damage...& you'll see a iron star shaped object on the house. This was commonly use to patch small cannon fire.

After over a day...& several hundred engineers sniped into the water later. The union army was finally able to cross on their makeshift bridge. Only to walk into several thousand confederate sharp shooters...stationed behind this stone wall. It was a slaughter. Union officers watched from a church bell tower....but sent wave after wave of men to their death.
