Holy shit yeah. I am with Comcast as well. This has to be the worst cable service on the planet. I used to be with @Home, but but they went tits up here and Comcast took over. Ever since the "transition" its been hell.
|
I know dude... i don't have time to get a company to come out here and install so I think I'm just going to buy this directtv garbage and install it myself...because I'm resorting to 56k for today and I need something new NOOOW...
|
...and I thought I was alone with that. I get dropped for no reason and have to switch IPs frequently... WTH?
|
get two cans and a string
|
I choose where I live based solely on the availability of broadband. Everything else is secondary.
Same as hotels. |

On the broadband side of this conversation look for non-line-of-site wireless services to be rolled out in the next year with 10mbps for about the same as cable/dsl |

i use directtv
formerly telocity it kicks ass, i havent lost synch, sometimes shit happens but thats with anyone. there support sucks, you probably know more than there techs the speed actually depends on what their contract with the phone company is. mine is 850 down and 160 up plus you get a static i.p and they can also setup dns if you run a webserver off your computer. i would reccomend them |
plus their dsl modem is external, you an connect either through a nic card or usb
|
I have a 2400 Bps modem you can borrow.
|
maybe if you lived near the LAKERS in LOS ANGELES you'd have a real ISP?
:winkwink: |
I used to live in @Home territory, and vowed I would never go back to dial-up, then after the transition, I saw how much Comcast sucked ass, ever since that December 27th switch over, and it was bad enough, since that day I was down for 24 hours.
They fucked up in February and rolled out null configs to most of the modems in the area I was living in at the time, days, weeks, MONTHS went by without service visits that I requested, so about week 2 of my outage I went out and got a wholesale dialup deal with a ISP that I share with my parents and friends now. Nationwide access at $10/mo, can't beat that on the road, nor at home when you have 'speed withdrawal' and 2 idle phone lines. :) Anyways, the only decent cable IP provider I've seen is Optimum Online, other than that, everyone else sucks, well, Time Warner/Road Runner/AOL/ConglomoCo sucks less, but doesn't top OO. Oh, and the next company to send me a flyer saying "DSL maybe available in your area" better be damn fucking sure I can get DSL before sending me a flyer, I don't want to sit on the phone for 30 minutes for you just to tell me that DSL access isn't available in my area, "oh, we just mailed all the customers in XYZ metro area". But now that I'm in Arizona, we'll see how things work out. </long-and-senseless-rant> |
did those of you who have the directtv service install the shit yourself? because I know it will take 2 weeks to get somebody out here so I'm just going to order it from tigerdirect to get it here in 2 days...think i will have any problems installing?
|
if youre talking about the dsl service, they have to go through the same hoops as any other dsl company, getting all of the stuff setup through your local telco. (ie uswest, pacbell, ameritech, whoever). since you have to go through your telco anyway, you should call them and check their dsl services and prices, they may end up beating what directv offers you.
|
I have Road Runner and like it alot...
Just had one problem with it... was down for most of one day... other wise I like it a lot better that Pac Bell DSL which I had when I was in thew Bay Area... This Cable is quit abit faster than the DSL I had.... the DSL was a static IP... So the person that said Road Runner sucks,,,, must be the area your in... because I think it Rocks me self |
