Tonsil-fucking-lectomy at 39 !!

OK, many of you would have heard (and select few unfortunately know first hand) that I snore like a fucking freight train.

I suffer from this fucked up thing called "Obstructive Sleep Apnoea".

It means I stop breathing when I sleep (when I was put into hospital for a "sleep study", I stopped breathing 190 times in 6 hours, the longest for 45 seconds).

Any who are aware of this condition know it is fucked up, and not a great thing for one's health.

You get headaches and shit as well, wake up even more tired than when you went to bed and when it gets as bad as it is with me, you have narcopleptic tendencies (as many have witnessed personally or seen the photos at least).

So my Doctor sends me along to the ENT Specialist, ostensibly for a nose job to clear the airways fucked by many a broken snozzle, and instead I now find I am booked in for the 3rd July to get my "way oversized" tonsils ripped out.

The nose is still getting done, but a bit later on, as Doc decided the tonsils are the root of that is evil and must go first.

Apparently my earlier life throat problems ([url=http://www.gofuckyourself.com/showthread.php?t=604772]See My AMbush Interview by Clicking Here for details) have caused my tonsils to grow abnormally, thereby reaching TWICE their normal size and reducing the status quo size of my airway by 50%.

I have had tonsillitus problems here and there, the last time being after Phoenix Forum, and it is a nightmare because my breathing so restricted - obviously when the tonsils swell, my already 50% too small airway is even more restricted.

So tonsil-fucking-lectomy here I come.

The Doc said it is a real shit surgery for an adult, with the highest possibloy of going back to the table for re-bleeds and shit like that, but mainly because it is painful as all fuck for days afterwards.

He did promise me that I would lose 2 pounds per day minimum for at least a week, so on top of my big drop from Phoenix to Webmaster Access, this has got to be a good thing, and the Doc also reckons that if I put my mind to it, I could give up smoking, because I will be physically unable to smolke for 405 days at least (it will hurt WAYYYY too much).

CuriousToyBoy give up the smokes ?

Ha ha ha ah ah aha ha ha ha aha ha ha

I'd like to see that.

:winkwink: :thumbsup :1orglaugh :pimp

oh pumpkin, wish I was there to spoon feed you the icecream when it's over. tell me when it is so I can think about you extra that day. my man has the exact same thing and it scares the shit out of me most the time. I don't sleep well because I think he is going to need CPR at any moment. I always shake him when he stops breathing and it freaks him out. he doesn't even know when it is happening. he does know that he has the same condition as you. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. don't be scared, mama loves you!

Unable to smoke for 405 days?..damn..good way to quit I guess..good luck

Web Lass 05-30-2006 06:32 PM

Oh man that suuuuucks. So sorry to hear it.

My sister is having tonsil problems right now too. She's got "tonsil stones" and also doesn't sleep properly.

CTB - I hope you are into pain because you are going to feel it. You're throat will have never been as sore as it will be after the operation.

My ex-wife used to do the same thing.

I'd wake up and she'd be staring at me.

I think on many levels she was hoping I would NOT start breathing again.

he he he

lots of ice cream and no talking

Peaches 05-30-2006 07:40 PM

Oh geeze, I dated a guy with sleep apnea and I swear I'd stay awake all night just to make sure he'd start breathing again after he stopped. Scared the SHIT out of me.

I'm glad you're getting it fixed. It's not something you want to play with.

Hugs and kisses and have CJ make you lots of creamy warm soups to heal with :)

Matt-RevShare 05-30-2006 08:20 PM

Good luck man! I hope this clears the sleep issue up for you.

As for smoking, I know one thing about you my friend...you are NO quitter.

I look forward to sharing a smoke together at the next show :)

I had such a blast hanging with you in Toronto-props to Guerilla Traffic for their hospitality.

Matt

Grrrrrrrrrreat. Remind me to walk into the room AFTER youve already slept and are up and about again.

Wow I was under the impression that they didn't so much cut tonsils out now as "burn" them out with a laser and it was less invasive. Guess not eh? Good luck with that.

Raven 05-30-2006 10:39 PM

Well, Linds....since I knew about you having to get the tonsil-fucking-ectomy...you have my utter and sincere empathy...I went through this dreadful operation in my adult years...I've had other surgeries..not many; but, this, by far was the worst...

I was awake during the procedure..which thankfully you won't be..saving grace was having a gorgeous resident hold the mirror so I could watch..

I will say this. Don't eat nuts. It's a bitch and a half. Ice cream is worse....but popsicles rule...as does chicken broth, not too hot...

Extreme temps with food will make you cry....so, canned peaches go down nicely....baby food is the best....and knowing you, you'll try to smoke....we each learn in our own special way....screaming is not recommended..hurts the throat...

It's not the surgery that's so bad..it's the fifth day post op....so be careful..after that, you'll not regret this surgery, pain that it is..I've not had a single sore throat since.

If I could be there for you, I'd spoon feed you..

Selfishly, I must admit that road trips will be far more interesting...as it stands now, having you nod off in the middle of a sentence, cigarette dangling from your fingertips makes for boredom extraordinaire. :)

HA! Forget his pain! What about some sympathy for the one who has to put up with his whining!!!!!!! I am wondering if it wouldn't be easier if I ripped my own tonsils out with a steak knife!!!

oh wait ... he won't be able to talk much :thumbsup

GTS Mark 05-30-2006 10:48 PM

Awww man that sucks, keep smiling though Lindsay you will be ok :)
