Noam Chomsky: Why it's over for America

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/ne...p?story=693194

And some quick quotes for those of you who don't feel like reading the whole thing:

"An inability to protect its citizens. The belief that it is above the law. A lack of democracy. Three defining characteristics of the 'failed state'. And that, says Noam Chomsky, is exactly what the US is becoming. In an exclusive extract from his devastating new book, America's leading thinker explains how his country lost its way"

"The Bush administration has even succeeded in alienating Canada, an impressive feat."

"One of the most horrendous tragedies of recent years was the October 2005 earthquake in Pakistan. In addition to the huge toll, unknown numbers of survivors have to face brutal winter weather with little shelter, food, or medical assistance. One has to turn to the South Asian press to read that "Cuba has provided the largest contingent of doctors and paramedics to Pakistan", paying all the costs (perhaps with Venezuelan funding), and that President Musharraf expressed his "deep gratitude" for the "spirit and compassion" of the Cuban medical teams."

enjoy! :thumbsup

It's over for Bush. Bush isn't America.

I like a lot of his writing but Chomsky has been chomping at the bit for the US to be destroyed for twenty years. This is just more of the same. Krushchev said "we will bury you", too, and so far, he's dead, and my country is still kicking.

Bush is definitely giving us our hardest test to date, however.
:Oh crap

seeric 05-30-2006 06:39 PM

yeah, we don't even like the idiot.

Wiggles 05-30-2006 06:40 PM

Chomsky is a genius, he has alot of amazing stuff written.

tony286 05-30-2006 06:41 PM

we will carry on things will change they always do

Bdiddy 05-30-2006 06:45 PM

definitely a tough road ahead...

Probono 05-30-2006 07:15 PM

Things are changing so fast that the government cannot see the change. Bush thinks the economy is blossoming, it might be for him but for the guy filling his pickup with the money he would have spent on porn it is a blossom with thorns.

The situation in the middle east is a f**king disaster with no end in sight. If we leave, I should say when we leave it will become even worse.

Bush cannot be blamed for all of this, the US government has forgotten the roots and ideals of our founders and constitution and what is worse is that the average Joe Six pack on the street is more worried about American Idol until his son is killed in Iraq or Afganistan.

Melody 05-30-2006 07:25 PM

I don't think that's true (that Joe Sixpack doesn't care) anymore. The Shrub can't even keep a 29% approval rating. He's moving quickly into Nixon territory (who would have thought the Nixon administration would seem like a wistful good dream by comparison).

Splum 05-30-2006 08:21 PM

The guy is lucky he is an American, in other countries he would be put to death for some of the shit he writes, which makes me wonder is that such a bad thing.

America is fine lol, just because one party or another is in control of government our government has never defined our country, at least not to ordinary Americans it hasnt.

As far as the rest of the world, they have their own problems, I dont know why they focus so much on American problems lol. Really think about it why does the world fucking care what we do, and if they did why the fuck aint they doing anything about it?

The doc "manufacturing consent" was an eye opener for me.

he's a genius because he knows his audience eats shit so thats what he feeds them.
its simple.

Melody 05-30-2006 08:49 PM

He's written some interesting things, but you have to see it from his philosophical stance. He's like an adolescent with a serious hard-on for the USA. He just wants to see us destroyed. Something from his childhood probably. lol

Still, "Manufacturing Consent" is a brilliant polemic.

american pervert 05-30-2006 09:10 PM

chomsky is a douche bag. he dismisses the khmer rouge as tales of communist atrocities based on unrealible accounts. he is an anti-american american intelllectual who had prospered in american beyond all reason. he is another one who should leave a country that he dispises so much

That's exactly what this war was. It was a perfect example of manufacturing consent.
