How do I explain away my 4 years in online adult on my resume?

Im going to go back into the work force and for the past 4 years Ive worked in adult and I dont know how to put that on my resume or explain it away.

I guess I could say that I sold shit on ebay and make a fake website selling items on ebay, and then just tell the interviewer that it slowed down and Im going back to work.
Or say I was taking care of a sick relative for the past few years.
Any other ideas?

Yep, that's about what my non-adult job description is as well. And most companies have a non-adult business name you can use, and all of my former employers understand that I may use them as a reference for non-adult work as well.

christ man - if you cant figure out a good reason you shouldnt be getting a job in the mainstream world when more tougher decisions are to be made.

actually I found some mainstream companies respect me more for working in the adult industry because they know we are far advanced in knowledge than any one of them.

If you will work for some IT company you can do it (make a fake site) or you can say you were in coma.

nastynun 05-30-2006 08:58 AM

They won't believe it. My sister went for a bunch of interviews(she works in dental offices) She owns a big ebay store and when asked what she did for work she said "Online Store" they all ask "Oh did you sale porn?". LOL. Good luck :thumbsup

Basic_man 05-30-2006 08:58 AM

Online marketing. And tell them about a fake mainstream industry you would own ..

For various mainstream companies. "Have you ever had an adult company that you consulted for?" Yes, I had one and it was an experience. It is definiately a different atmosphere, but it is very hard work. However, you learn new techniques and marketing ideas because they have more advancements than most mainstream companies.

Tell them you were in prison for killing the last interviewer who didn't hire you. :1orglaugh

RayBonga 05-30-2006 11:27 AM

I worked for the CIA.

If anybody tries to check that they will have to kill him

GrannyDollars 05-30-2006 11:45 AM

Tell them you've been a fluffer for gay bareback movies, that will seal the deal for sure.

Pleasurepays 05-30-2006 11:49 AM

"i just don't know what to say or do... so i need to ask GFY" = "i am not worth hiring since i can't be bothered to figure out a simple answer to something soooo important"

:2 cents:

SgtStrider 05-30-2006 11:58 AM

just tell them your expertise in the programing side and how you ran a ""buisness"". i dont think you would need to mention the word ""adult"". :thumbsup

Sarah_Jayne 05-30-2006 12:15 PM

I always say internet marketing because it is enough to make most people confused and stop asking questions.
