epassporte "math question"

to verify my c/c, they ask for an pending charge amount less than 2$

my bank put 2.12$ in the bank and I am from canada..

what is the amount I pick less than 2$..

neither epassporte or the bank could give me an answer.

my c/c charges 2.5% exchange rate if this helps at all.

Fucksakes 05-28-2006 06:20 PM

they give me 2 trys and I can't be 1 penny off, and exchange rate is always changing.

GatorB 05-28-2006 06:24 PM

The exchange rate charge has nothing to do with anything. Epassporte didn't charge you that. They are asking for what THEY charged. I would think that $2.12 American would be MORE than $2.12 Canadian. Actually in the end I would say $2.12 since that's what they actualy charged

Notice to Customers Outside of the United States:
When retrieving the pending charge amount from your bank, you must ask them for the U.S. dollar authorization. You must enter the U.S. dollar amount on the ePassporte form and not the amount converted to your own currency.

my bank put 2.12 in cdn funds.. and i need to know what to put on epassporte.. my bank couldnt give me this answer for some fucking reason.

Elli 05-28-2006 06:26 PM

Usually the bank can tell you what the original charge was in the original currency.

Fucksakes 05-28-2006 06:29 PM

ah i get it.. epassporte charged 2.12 cdn and i need to know what this is in us funds.

Well then you should have done what epassorte told you and this wouldn't be an issue. What DATE does the pending charge say?

Well I say call epass and start over and this time do this like epassporte said

woj 05-28-2006 06:35 PM

There is no way you will be able to calculate it accurately, your only hope is calling epassporte or the credit card company..

because next time they do it in AMERICAN dollars. If your bank can't do that simple thing I suggest getting an account in a REAL bank. You go to your bank and say "Ok I'm getting a pending charge from epassporte in AMERICAN dollars. I need to know how much that charge is in AMERICAN dollars. If you can't provide me with that info then I will find another bank to do business with." You will be surpised at how fast you get that info.

MaddCaz 05-28-2006 06:44 PM

ePasspoorte has been gettin solid HELL lately!

Fucksakes 05-28-2006 06:52 PM

ok I closed epass and clicked the link in my email and there they had an option for other countries for the amount.

Basic_man 05-28-2006 07:58 PM

Your bank should have the details on how much USD$ were billed ..

Yeah, no shit. I'd change banks asap if my bank didn't tell me how much I was charged/given to originally. Either Fucksakes' bank sucks, or the teller should be fired. Just figured I'd drop my non-related :2 cents:

My bank ( TD Canada Trust ) had the same answer.

But for Epassporte, you can select Can Funds and enter the amount.

I had no problem with that.

rowan 05-29-2006 12:40 AM

Here's probably what happened

- Epass charged you an amount in USD lower than $2.
- Your bank converted that to CDN at the appropriate Visa or Mastercard rate.
- They then added a 2.5% foreign currency conversion fee, which is a fucking ripoff... the card conversion rate is already conservative in the banks favour.

On my Visa statement the amount shows in AUD as normal, but also USD as part of the merchant descriptor (eg "PAYPAL USD100.00"). Perhaps you'll have to wait until you receive a paper statement to see that detail.

JOP 05-29-2006 02:17 AM

I had the same problem with euros. Some banks canhahaha180;t see the originally charged amount. Ithahaha180;s on the statement most of the time, but they canhahaha180;t tell you on the phone.

What I did:

Called epassporte 3 times and told them the problem. The 3rd guy gave me the right amount to enter on the phone when I gave him the amount in Euro that you have been charged.
