Invisibility cloak ( video )
I posted this eons ago , but because of the recent threads/articles discussing it . this is rather interesting
http://projects.star.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp...oc-okugai3.mpg http://projects.star.t.u-tokyo.ac.jp...s/oc-wired.mpg Not quite an invisibility cloak , but its touted as "optical camoflauge" |
that's excellent! :thumbsup
|
I bet they work very well in the mountains and places like that. and if the person wearing it, is standing still, you would miss them.
|
Whoa!! That's fucking cool! How the hell does that work?

anyway, that is AWESOME!!! I am so impressed!
|
If they are making that stuff public, they probably already have things that are way more advanced...

Invisible bump. 2hp |

The chick with the underware is much better
|
Whoa those clips are darn cool
|
those are cool
|
amazing stuff... like a james bond's gadgets
|
what confuses me is in the one video it shows a shot of a video of him moving the film across his head and body and it appears to be like an x-ray.. well if they have shit like that why am i paying hundreds of dollars for xrays :)
Im suspecting just off the top of my head that perhaps its more of an illusion . like they cant actually see the bones and such , what they do is make an x-ray first then basically "NULL" out the body and project the xray onto the image.. still awfully cool , but not quite as amazing as it appears. |
i could still think of a few cool things you could do with that though.. would be great for security.. Like instead of having a security guard standing there he would project whats behind him onto this security uniform then just stand there basically unseeen unless you stood behind him.. or walked into him..
|
....that's weird!!! :D
|
smoke n mirrors smokey.....the second clip is all projection....it appears anyway, the only part im not getting is its not on his face, but when you watch him walk around you can see the insignia on the wall flutter on his coat as if it were projected.....am i wrong?
i do lik eyour security guard idea....but then the burglars will just get the coats ;) |

The part that screamed fake for me was the xray of the head&body , but it also is what pointed out kind of the "real" idea they are trying to put forth.. its not really an invisibility cloak like the harry potter style they are trying to make now by bending light around an object its just projection but an advanced method of it.. If PETA gets wind of this idea i bet they will wrap bears and rhino's n shit in it.. I wonder how another animal would precieve it. |
Oh cool, an assassination cloak
good stuff :) |
this is actually fake. haven't you guys ever seen a weather man?

------------------------------------------------------- What is Optical Camouflage? Optical camouflage is a kind of active camouflage. This idea is very simple. If you project background image onto the masked object, you can observe the masked object just as if it were virtually transparent. This shows the principle of the optical camouflage using X'tal Vision. You can select camouflaged object to cover with retroreflector. Moreover, to project a stereoscopic image, the observer looks at the masking object more transparent. Optical camouflage can be applied for a real scene. In the case of a real scene, a photograph of the scene is taken from the operatorfs viewpoint, and this photograph is projected to exactly the same place as the original. Actually, applying HMP-based optical camouflage to a real scene requires image-based rendering techniques. M. Inami, D. Sekiguchi, S. Tachi, Le manteau transparent! I can't see how it could work... this is a 2D image.. how could that ever look correct from any angle? .. or am I getting something wrong here?
