Actually, Amp, you struck close there....argumentation aside. Recent scholars write that "hell" was edited into medieval versions of the bible and the scriptures. Talmudic scholars edited it in during earlier times as well. It was to serve political purposes rather than accurately reflecting older texts.

Same rewrite happened to the bible's historical view of homosexuality.
