Here's the problem I have with War of the Worlds

Watching it right now on Max.

It's at the part where they are hiding in crazy Shawshank dudes cellar. They want me to believe that a race of aliens, who planted their shit here millions of years ago, can come swooping down in a bolt of lightning, and drive big machines with laser beams, but can't see heat signatures with their stupid little serpent eye thingy?

Screaming 05-26-2006 07:30 PM

it was still an ok flick

Burridge 05-26-2006 07:30 PM

my problem with it was that it sucked.

CDSmith 05-26-2006 07:31 PM

Maybe they just didn't think of it.

:D

aico 05-26-2006 07:37 PM

Oh and it gets better... now they want me to believe that for some reason that serpent thingy is made from an alloy that can't resist an axe attack, but just a few minutes ago, rockets were having no effect.

2HousePlague 05-26-2006 07:44 PM

Bad writers have been doing that shit for years.

it's kinda like the movie Signs, with mel gibson...those aliens come to earth and it turns out water kills them? wtf? like they were gonna colonize earth without getting wet? hello, ever hear of something called rain? its just not feasible...

Wasn't it weak how they used "planted machines" from millions of years ago instead of just invading the earth with their most current weaponized machines - whenever they were ready to invade?
Also, how lucky were they that they buried those machines millions of years ago in just the right spots as not to be affected by tectonic plate shifts and end up in very populated cities. amazing! amazingly stupid.

The one that always made me laugh was the fact that the space traveling aliens needed to put signs in corn fields (by knocking down stalks) to direct their invasion. that is just pure fat stupid.

Vitasoy 05-26-2006 07:54 PM

Thought it was pretty good, kept me entertained.

The movie is based off of a book that was written in 1898 IMO it's wasn't a bad story line from a guy that was thinking that far ahead of time. The guy that wrote that book was thinking way a head of his time and it's still a good story in this age and time.

The movie lacked the impact of the original radio broadcast - back when listeners were forced to use their own imaginations.

Imagine listening to it on the radio and not knowing for sure whether it was a genuine event...or a clever radio play (putting aside the obvious time compression of events).

my problem is that ever since TC went crazy, i cant watch any of his movies... the only thing that was interesting about it was wondering if dakota fanning was going to do a drew barrymore with her life and if she will be hot or not when she is 18...

People must have been dumb back then. I still can't imagine sitting around a radio, listening to what you actualy believe is an alien invasion...

and a little detail, water = life, without water there would be no life here and probably nowhere else

Stupidity isn't a new thing.

But contrary to the popular myth - there wasn't widespread panic in the streets or mass evacuations during the original broadcast. It was largely exaggerated over the years.

that movie sucked balls
