Does your music define you?

I have often wondered if the type of music you listen to gives someone a pre-conceived idea of who you are and what you're about.

Example: What do you think of someone who listens to country? :Oh crap
I myself could not have a relationship with someone because of that. I HATE country music!

The same applies to Rap, Heavy Metal, Rock, Pop, Jazz, etc.

For me I think the type of music someone enjoys does define them to a certain extent. I know I still like and listen to the Stones, Zep & Floyd every day.:thumbsup

This may sound ridiculous or not, but I've learned that men take music more seriously than women. By this I mean that girls usually listen to a little bit of everything, and don't take to hating certain genres or bands, while guys stick to certain styles or bands they consider good, and can't stand music they consider crappy.

That said, I think music does define you, somewhat.

When I was in the punk rock scene, the music definately defined me. I still listen to the music, but its not a lifestyle anymore.

i notice it around me that alot of people listen to only popular music, for example only popular hiphop... when i give em some more "underground" (hate that word - lets just say non-popular) hiphop albums they need to check out, they just dont listen to it because it aint a pop song theyve heard on radio or tv... while there is so much more then pop music out there.

I love almost all music. Therefore im a very easy person socialy, I wonder if there is a connection...

My best bands are usually classic rock bands and punk/indie rock kinda thing. I like garage sound, loud music but it has to have spirit. Back in the beginning of the 90's I was a huge fan of Nirvana. Then discovered a great band in the same line called Dinosaur Jr and I cant get enough of those guys. Harsh and loud just like I love.

I CANT stand R&B or rap or hip-hop though. I guess im not too attracted to music that prones superficial subjects.

Im a sucker for loud girls bands though such as Bikini Kill and LeTigre...

Seems tough to define someone by what they listen to anymore with so many crossover artists around..

With that said, I don't like country or opera... at all... ever.

Great site. Aya is a friend of mine.

Music does define you. It's almost more of a social yardstick than anything else.

LittleSassy 05-26-2006 12:30 PM

yes...i think that music defines who we are. like somehow reflects what we really are, what we feel...

Screaming 05-26-2006 12:56 PM
