"SIDNEY, Neb. - A judge said a 5-foot-1 man convicted of sexually assaulting a child was too small to survive in prison, and gave him 10 years of probation instead.

His crimes deserved a long sentence, District Judge Kristine Cecava said, but she worried that Richard W. Thompson, 50, would be especially imperiled by prison dangers.

"You are a sex offender, and you did it to a child," she said.

But, she said, "That doesn't make you a hunter. You do not fit in that category."

Thompson will be electronically monitored the first four months of his probation, and he was told to never be alone with someone under age 18 or date or live with a woman whose children were under 18. Cecava also ordered Thompson to get rid of his pornography.

He faces 30 days of jail each year of his probation unless he follows its conditions closely.

"I want control of you until I know you have integrated change into your life," the judge told Thompson. "I truly hope that my bet on you being OK out in society is not misplaced.""

yeah, and a friend of mine just got 8 months wednesday for violating a restraining order with a phone call. A female even. What a fucking idiotic system

I can't believe it! Isn't that the reason we send people to prison? To get them off the streets, away from all of the law abiding citizens and mostly to pay for the crime they commited? That has to be the stupidest judge ever! Who cares if he's too small? Did he think about the kids being "too small" when he was sexually assaulting them? No! So, let him get butt fucked and die in prison! That's what he gets!

I read it about 4 times before I actually believed it. The judge says he's not a hunter. What, did he wake up one day at 50 years old and decide to molest a child? He's probably done this so many times and just never been caught.

He DESERVES to feel afraid in jail, to feel the fear that poor child felt when he was molesting him/her.

I have a friend who is in jail for 6 months for possession of weed and a dui. Those are two things I know a lot of people do. But this child molester gets no jail at all.

This judge is a fucking idiot. One good thing about prison, child molesters get rapped by other inmates for being child molesters. Justice served!

No body said life was fair. Getting yourself in front of the right judge is an important task for your lawyer. You don't have a lot of choice, but depending on the state there are things you can do. Where I live, you can get one change of judge without cause. So if by luck you pull the "hanging" judge, move on!

thats brutal! not that 19 year old guys should be having sex with 15 year old girls, but still...

She must have taken the advice from various pschyatrist (whater the word is in english)... judges don't take theses decisions alone here in canada at least. The is a team of people to evaluate the dudes.
