DRAMA: This fucking designer is trying to take me for $900
 

After about 5-6 weeks of waiting for this fucking idiot to do the design for me i sent him this email

"Again I have had no updates as to the work which has been done for multiple days now and am left twiddling my thumbs without anything to do..

You've told me that I would get daily updates for the site so I can monitor the progress which has been done which has not been the case.

I have been having to chase you guys to find out what is going on which is unacceptable.

I do not want you guys to finish the site as I never know whats going on and have to babysit this project which should have been completed.

I really do not care how much you've done or how close you are as I am getting someone else to complete this job.


Please refund my $900.

He then responds with

"I'm sorry for the troubles but our wireless internet phone got stolen back in Thailand. Seeing it as a hopeless situation there I changed my ticket to come back to Holland and I've just arrived in Holland so this was the first time till then I could get online.

First of all, I'd like to finish the job but if you really found someone else and do not wish to get it completed by me, then I cannot refund the full $900. I've still done a lot of work and cannot let this all go for free. I'm sorry it had to be like this. "


So, i responded with this


"You promised that the shit would be done in 5 weeks and that I would have daily updates and here we are in week 7 and all I've seen was a stupid fucking jpg image of one section.

When I wrote to you previously you said that you would again provide the daily update for me and that this job would be done within a week and AGAIN it totally fucked up, the week has passed and I have not received any updates other than the jpg image.

So you completely fucked me over is more or less what happened. You cost me lots of lost production time because you could not even deliver a fucking watermark image so that I could encode the content.

Working with you has been one broken promise after another broken promise and nothing has gotten done. The only work you've done as far as I am concerned is what you provided in that jpg image which is not much at all.

Seeing as dave referred me to you and made a cut I have asked him to remove my video feeds from his site. I will also do my best to make sure that you don?t fuck anyone else over.

I understand your frustration. We dealt with similar issues for some non-adult designs last months. None out of 5 or 6 designers met any given deadline they provided. PSDs were taking ages to arrive, always something was missing and so on. Imagine we didn't receive all work up to this moment.

Take your loss and move on- it is what I would do I guess.

And fuck him when and if you can.

Trust me, nothing would make me more happy but before i drop the ball on this guy i am waiting to see what he has to say to the last email i sent him. If i do not like the response i'll let everyone know.

doesn't sound like he's trying to scam you, i bet he's just lazy... but you are right to request a refund, as 7 weeks is too long

a lot of designers are pretty slack from stories i've herd from clients, he's just making excuses

Designers and programmers...both are horrible to deal with.

I never said he tried to scam me. The guy does good which is why i agreed to the initial "up to 5 weeks" to get this shit done. But this is fucked.

I had to pay another guy $400 to do the same shit that i paid this guy $900 to do because this project is far to important to me to sit here and fuck around with.

Hopefully it works out in the end and if not then i'll have to eat it as a loss but i will not be happy about it and will go out of my way to fuck with him.

"take me" and "scam me" are pretty much the same thing to me

"Scam me" to me would mean that he had no intentions of doing anything other than collecting the money :)

There's the problem...you need a refund. Never pay in advance. That's the best way to be sure you'll never get what you want or get it on time.

You should never pay the full amount in advance.

Half payment upon commencement and half when finished is the way I usually do things these days.

I think those two different quotes have a lot to do with each other. I mean if people keep saying move on, learn from it, then fuck him over later, that may be a reason why it keeps happening. You shouldn't need someone else to hold you accountable for doing a job that you were paid for. I'm not saying that this is a case of someone being ripped off because we are still waiting for all the info but I have seen a lot of people getting screwed on this board in my short time here.

If I ever do get video work from here, I'm not going to need the person I'm doing work for or with to come here and say I'm not doing my job in order for me to get that job done. I don't know, it just sounds pretty sad to me that it takes that type of action for some people to take care of business.

Hez: You are absolutely right! I should not need to hold someone's hand to ensure they deliver what they said they would when they said they would. It's utter bullshit.

In this biz, like any other biz, all you really have in the end is your Word. I'll jump through hoops to ensure i can keep my promises and stick to what i said i would do and if i am unable to then i will always let the customer know and see where he wants to take it from there.

I aplogize for getting you involved in this mess and i am glad we had a chance to talk on the phone to atleast get our involvement sorted out! I wish it was their account i had sent the money to as i would have had no issues following through on the dispute but since you were just a middleman i couldn't in good faith follow through with it.

If I'd agreed to do the site... I'd not have taken 900 from you up front ... I'd have taken maybe 200 as a good will payment. Then i'd have busted my ass to do the job for you and get you AAA quality in good time. That's how we work. Bad luck dude... post his details around for others to be wary of him. I'd EXPECT my name to be dragged if I couldn't come up with the goods and didn't refund the 900 ... fuck... sorry, I'd NEVER have taken it!

I know exactly who you are talking about, he has done some work for me and he has had some troubles since moving to Thailand, i have paid him money in the past and have never had one problem with him, he has some money of mine at the moment and i to have not heard from him, but i am sure he will follow through and get your site designed, he has not let me down in the past.

He has had some major problems in Thailand and i confirmed this with him on the phone from here in aus a few weeks ago.

I know its a pain in the butt to wait, i also hate waiting, but i am sure if you just give him a little longer he will come through for you, as soon as i see him on ICQ i will tell him to contact you asap.

IT was only last week when i started to get pissed that anything was actually done, which means that during the 5 weeks that he was supposed to be doing the shit for me he did absolutely nothing, atleast for me.

While i really dont care about his living situtation he could have come to me and said "Look joe, i'm having some issues and how do you want to deal with it" but instead he yet again promised me "1 Week and it will all be done" and here we are, no further than where we were.

I have already hired someone else to complete the project. I do not want him to do it, i dont have the time to wait another 5 weeks which he sorts his shit out.

You think he woud say "I understand i fucked up on this project so i will give you a $900 credit towards something else you might want designed later on since i was unable to do this for you" but instead i get a "Fuck you, too bad you hired someone else, i am keeping your money and you get nothing."

Dont forget that it was only last week that he promised me "1 more week and its done" YET he knew exactly what was going on and the moving and shit..It was almost deceitful

I went to dispute the charge but there was someone who collected the funds for the guy. There is no way i would hold the person who accepted the payment for the designers responsible for it.

Believe me, i would love to CB on this fucker but it isnt fair for the other guy to take the hit on it.
