Should Playboy sell off GFY?

Does GFY fit into Playboys mix of sites? Anybody think the idea is being considered? A case could be made for an independent GFY. In that case, what's its value? GFY is an asset for sure and a potential liability???

Think there is any hesitation in spending marketing dollars on a competitor's site?

Will Playboy exert more and more controls to fit the company image and market strategy? Will there be more ass covering as the corporate lawyers look closer and closer?

Does GFY get less attention now that it is part of a bigger organization or do you think that the additional resources will only help?

Discuss....

Well I know that playboy is adult.com etc, but not sure if GFY was in teh actual package. If it is I don't see why they would sell the # adult webmaster board

2HousePlague 05-24-2006 06:29 PM

Either way, it'll be the feather of someone's cap.

Assume it was part of the adult.com package. They didn't share the sales contract with me, so I don't know all the details.

Eric 05-24-2006 06:34 PM

GFY was part of the entire package. Playboy has no plans of selling off GFY. In fact the company has just invested quite a bit of cash into increasing the number of servers and the redundancy that exists for GFY. We also have further plans for GFY in the coming months and years. GFY is here for the long haul and that haul will be with Playboy.

pussyluver 05-24-2006 06:37 PM

By the use of the word "We" you imply that you are part of the management team? Is that true and are you speaking on behalf of Playboy?

GiveIntoMe 05-24-2006 06:43 PM

I hate Playboy there so gayo

A good way to treat your host. If I were a mod, that would be a strike.

nico-t 05-24-2006 07:04 PM

yeah you guys have built this into a phenom...why get rid of it

it must turn a pretty penny as well

pussyluver 05-24-2006 07:14 PM

Just keep it as open and as free (as in free speech) as possible. Wish people would stop threatening or wishing physical harm to political leaders. That invites problems. There is a difference between free speech and threats whether to individuals or public figures.

You need to understand the difference between a threat and opinion. One is lawful, protected speech, the other is a criminal act. Threatening to kill Bush is one thing, wishing him dead is another. I have no intentions of killing Bush, but I wish he were dead. Big difference. And I dont think he qualifies as a "leader" either. :2 cents:

Playboy? GFY? EH?

It is all about synergies

TheLegacy 05-28-2006 04:24 AM

its becoming more of a surfer board than a webmaster board - so keep it - gfy has its usefulness but eventually it will end up loosing more webmasters

You sure do seem to have a lot of input into other people's business for someone who's business it isn't.

Do you seriously think they need a consultant at this point? GFY has been #1 for almost as long as it's been in existance. I think they can do just fine making their own decisions.

Chill man. Just making an observation on GFY and asking a question. Do they need a consultant? Think they have plenty of in house talent and now they have shared some of their thoughts. Don't think the question was out of line and meant no ill by it.

As for threats against political leaders, I stand by my comments. And threatening to destabilize the country in which I live by causing physical harm to an elected official is my business. Even wishing harm on someone speaks to the charter of the person making the statement.

Think there are ways, but would any of them be popular?

Maybe GFY is evolving to include a broader audience? Some of those surfers turn into webmasters. That might have appeal to the sponsors.

I think that has its good points and bad points.
