Cologroup Virtual Hosting
 

I have noticed all the chat about virtual hosting and I am going to throw in some actual info on our company, since so many people have an opinion.

Overall, Virtual Hosting is not that difficult, it basically requires the right infrastructure and system to manage virtual hosting properly. We never in our minds expected the kind of success we have seen with our virtual hosting and we did not have the right infrastructure to handle the load.

If you 've been on our virtual host service, I can tell you, as a result of these problems, we have done nothing but take in all the input from what is going on and used that input to develop a system for virtual hosting that meets all your needs and ours.

From our recent experiences, the support breakdown has been as follows:

30% Setups
30% With maintenece (adding adding domains, emails, CGI, MYSQL, etc.)
30% Dealing with problems, creating solutions
10% Billing and Contracts

What we learned from this is, we did not have a system in place to handle the demand for our services both in relation to equipment and overal management. We have spent a lot of time delaing with issues that could have been automated or avoided.

We are lauching our new solution on the 1st and it will solve all of the problems for both you and us. It is already built, just being tested and improved for launch. It will effectively automate the virtual hosting business, so we can concentrate on keeping the servers running, which is what we do best.

So what are you saying to the people that currently have virtual hosting with you? The system is so fucked that your sites are doomed if you dont move them now or wait 'til you have lost pretty much all the traffic that you ever fuckin worked for and by the 1'st we will be back up and running?

No, I wasn't directly addressing the uptime issue. We have that worked out right now and the sites are all fine.

I was addressing the support issue. I was letting the customers know that everything our customers have asked for has been added to our new system. I am letting them know that they can manage their own domains, DNS, emails, and account info. I am letting them know everything that took 1-2 days to set up is going to be automated, so ther eis no wait time.

Most of all, I am letting the customers know, that for $50, they'll have one of the best solutions out there. I did not in any way try to say that because we charge less, we want to give you less, or that your sites will be down while we re-organize.

I'm kinda tired of hearing this same ol' bullshit of "you get what you pay for."

No you are not getting what you paid for if a company promises one thing for a set price and does not deliver.

This is not specifically aimed at Cologroup/Pimphost...I'm just stating that is the way business is done.

If company A promises client B a certain product/service for a certain price and both parties agree and are happy with the terms then either one fails to provide either service/product or payment then one of the parties is not fullfilling their obligations.

REGARDLESS OF THE PRICE.

If company A cannot provide that product/service for that price in good faith but yet continues to promise they can, then they give their customer base only a few options on which to judge them, their product/service, and finally their character.

We did not have a problem delivering the virtual hosting til we got 5 signups a day. It was a mis-calculation of demand that caused the problem. You can give me shit now, but you have no idea what I am doing or what we are capable of. I guarantee it.

Our dedicated customers are happy, it is just the virtual hosting that had problems, so it has nothing to do with Cogent. Also, I was doing this before Cogent was ever around.
