Plasma or LCD TV?

Hey people, I wanna get myself a nice new TV... now... Plasma or LCD?

King Adam 05-23-2006 07:42 PM

Plasma is shit. Bulbs burn out way too fast and cost and arm and leg to replace.

DLP ... best for the money. Picture is sweet and they are cheaper than both LCD and Plasma. Samsung makes a sweet DLP and you can hook up your computer to it directly.

Haydos 05-23-2006 07:44 PM

LCD all the way....check research on interweb...

Cyrano 05-23-2006 07:45 PM

Go with a plasma display, Samsung has some nice 42" models. You should not encounter any bulb problems with newer televisions. LCD's have terrible contrast ratios and generally look like shit.

wedouglas 05-23-2006 07:46 PM

I hear the new Westinghouse 1080p LCD is sweet. 37 or 42, not sure which it is.

Pure Evil 05-23-2006 07:47 PM

LCoS... similar to lcd but better than both

madawgz 05-23-2006 08:20 PM

gandalfuy 05-23-2006 09:04 PM

MattOT 05-24-2006 03:27 AM

gotta be LCD all the way

Cash 05-24-2006 04:22 AM

I have a regular TV set, I still don't know which one is better, it looks like a plasma is better, but as you can see, you have various opinions on this and that ....

Choppa 05-24-2006 09:02 AM

plasmas run at 145V in an ionised state, whereas LCD run at 3.3V on the board. as the plasma baords are sealed they have to be fully replaced.

adultchica 05-24-2006 09:05 AM

The plasmas are phat!

Ben.Z 05-24-2006 09:09 AM

I went with this : 60" Grand WEGA? SXRD? Rear Projection HDTVspacerKDS-R60XBR1

Couldn't be happier! :thumbsup

NemesiS876 05-24-2006 09:27 AM

E$_manager 05-24-2006 09:32 AM

E$_manager 05-24-2006 09:35 AM

you can go to the place where they sell it and try to compare.
i did. i liked LCD

lazycash 05-24-2006 09:43 AM

LCD, but for the same money you can buy a 60 inch DLP with no noticeable difference in picture quality, just a tad bulkier.

Validus 05-24-2006 10:23 AM

Okay, LCD it is :)

Yea, I am looking to make not have bulky things standing around. Also, I want to have the TV in the middle of the room, soo... yea..

Be sure to check out NewEgg.com ...

http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/Ca...p?Category=264

They got some crazy deals on both LCD and Plasmas. Prices are really coming down for both. Ordered a new LCD for my bedroom not even two days ago, and it will arrive tomorrow.

From the research I did prior to ordering it seem plasmas are only proven to excell past LCD in picture quality when the screen is 50in or larger. Although a lot has to do with the quality of the set.

I agree. I saw one the other day at a bar, and it was huge, and had a great picture.

SCtyger 05-24-2006 11:15 AM

at 42" you can find both LCD + Plasma.. the problem is if you want a wall mounted setup.. and need something bigger, the LCD selection is limited and more expensive. =/

i like LCD but may have to end up getting a 46-50 Plasma wall mounted display.

sweetgirl2006 05-24-2006 12:00 PM

I would say lcd or plasma anyone is good.
