Turkey burgers.. your thoughts?

I just made my first one. I gotta get my triglycerides in check cuz they're like 388 so I've been adjusting some things in my diet. I kinda messed it up though cuz there were two and I cooked them both back to back with the paper in between cuz I just thought it was one big thick burger...

So it's kinda overdone and dried out but doesn't take like turkey dinner or anything. I could probably do it again. I dunno what the point is though cuz I had to just put extra bbq sauce and cheese on it to make it taste good.

Its kinda plain tasting without sauce and other fixons, but definitely healthier.

They are not that bad but a real burger can't be beat

Spunky 05-23-2006 06:48 PM

iWeb_Iya 05-23-2006 06:54 PM

BAKO 05-23-2006 06:59 PM

Edible yes, delicious no

After Shock Media 05-23-2006 07:03 PM

Trick is lots of seasoning in the meat itself and I mean a lot.
Try adding things like liquid smoke, worcestershire sauce, steak sauce, grill seasoning, and so forth.

You may also want to add in some veggies finely diced to help with the moisture content. Onions, mushrooms, etc.

After Shock Media 05-23-2006 07:04 PM

Oh and instead of burgers try it in chili or whatnot.

Sly 05-23-2006 07:06 PM

Sorry, I need beef.

I bought ground turkey a couple weeks ago for something, can't remember what, it just wasn't the same. It tasted ok, but you need a little fat in there for flavor. Fat tastes good!

selena 05-23-2006 07:07 PM

I like them. I sometimes buy a couple of pounds of it, and make some thick ass patties for grilling out. I agree with not cooking it too long.

Something that I think helps is to take a little fat free miracle whip, chop up a garlic clove, mix them, and use it as a spread. Doesn't take much, and the garlic seems to accentuate the turkey.

selena 05-23-2006 07:07 PM

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Another double post.

Bdiddy 05-23-2006 09:30 PM

Theyre not bad, but no substitute for taste.

That is the trick. Worchestershire sauce is the best at adding flavour. Is that even how you spell it? What a crazy word.

Worst thing that ever happened to a turkey burger is the comparison to regular hamburgers. Approach them as a whole different category of sandwich, with its own merits and deficits. They're pretty good on their own strengths, sans expectations/preconceptions.

I had them before, they're okay..

'So Fucking Money 05-23-2006 10:31 PM

Put some bbq sauce on it. Also try garden burgers. They're pretty good also.

Sosa 05-23-2006 10:34 PM

give me beef!

Nismo 05-23-2006 10:34 PM

I usually eat 2 turkey patties seasoned with salt & pepper with brown rice for lunch when im cutting. they're very plain and not great tasting, but great for healthy lean protein *IF* you don't add shit to them like cheese, sauce, etc.

2HousePlague 05-23-2006 10:40 PM

Let's not forget we ARE talking about poultry here -- very different condiments apply.

I really like ground turkey, but not in burgers... I eat it in stuff like lasagna and pasta sauces, it's great :)

Emu burgers rule!!!!

We bought one of our daughters one once ... she's never forgiven us :1orglaugh

It's all I eat now when it comes to burgers. It's an acquired taste, just like when you start drinking diet soda and move back to regular and it tastes too sweet. Once you eat enough, a regular beef burger will taste too fatty for you. Buffalo and Ostrich are also good burgers if you're looking to cut out some fat.

Turkey sucks............................................. .......the country I mean

Sammy4u 05-23-2006 11:47 PM

If you buy ground turkey breast instead of the prepackaged patties you will get a much better taste. Those prepackaged ones are usually pretty nasty... if it is too much work making the patties yourself try Boca burgers instead the bean ones are delicious. ;)
